Yesterday's revolution is today's great legend....
Dior Eau Sauvage

A fragrance for the soul
A fragrance for the heart
A fragrance for men
A fragrance for lovers of classics

[...]

What would I do without fragrances like you? Yes what would I do without you?

You are the epitome of a classically elegant French gentleman's fragrance.
You are the symbol of perfect elegance.
You are the first fragrance from the house of the great Christian Dior, which was created for men.
You seem so simple, but in truth you are everything else; everything but simple.
You are so noble, distinguished, dignified and sublime that there is simply no way around a collection like mine.

Your initial herbaceous freshness, framed by a subtle aromatic citrus note, and my beloved lavender.
Your incidentally perceivable minimal spicy nuances, which give you a gentle pithy masculinity, without losing your angelic fresh-pure soul.
Your delicate floral tones that write the lightness of being in your face. Your slightly drifting into the green-mossy base, which provides the famous icing on the cake, let me dream...

Dreaming of carefree and uncomplicated times, which there will probably never be so...
But you give me that feeling;
a feeling of freedom, carefree, carefree and independent...

[...]

People grumble about your supposedly weak condition; well, to them I say they don't understand your character, your spirit, and last but not least, your soul.

You were made to be smelled for a good 3-4 hrs. Isn't that enough? Definitely for me! Because I appreciate you and love you just the way you are!

You do not need to scream for attention. Just like a gentleman who has no need to put himself in the center with unnecessary posturing...

[...]

You know you're phenomenal;
You know you're brilliant;
You know you're brilliant;
You have a confidence like no other, and are always polite, friendly, courteous and respectful.

You, with your signature aura, are for me one of the very best men's fragrances ever.

You stand as a symbol of good taste and authentic charisma.

You embody everything I identify with.

Dior Eau Sauvage - Yesterday's revolution is today's great legend.

[...]

What do I love fragrances like you...

What do I love you...

A fragrance made for a classic fan and especially lovers of French fragrances like me...

Fascination knows no bounds - and gender divisions don't anyway....
In the mid-80s, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred;
In the mid-80s, the world knew the hand of God (may the Lord in heaven have him blessed);
In the mid-80s, carrot pants, shoulder pads and so-called oversized blazers were en vogue;
and in the mid-80s, 1986 to be exact, Jean-Louis-Scherrer brought out a fragrance that I find beguiling, classic, elegant and very lovely;
[...]

Wait, Jean-Louis who? For those who don't know him (yet):

Jean-Louis Scherrer was a Parisian couturier who lived through the horrific years of World War II as a child and, with unbridled will and ambition, worked his way up and went on to have an impressive career.

Before entering the world of fashion, however, he tried his hand at dancing at the 'Conservatoire de Paris', a college of music and dance founded in 1795. As a talented young guy, one still justifiably placed great hopes in him, before he said goodbye to dancing due to injury and turned to haute couture.

Scherrer took his first steps in the new industry together with, or rather for Christian Dior, when he joined him in 1956 and was allowed to contribute his knowledge and skills there as a designer assistant alongside Yves Saint Laurent. After Dior's death, he still performed his service for Louis Féraud, also a fashion designer and artist, before fulfilling his dream of owning his own company in 1962.

Years of contacts and relationships abroad, especially the USA, quickly made him an internationally renowned gentleman in his profession. His fashions were particularly noted for their opulence and luxury. Beaded garments, elaborately embroidered, adorned his signature.
[...]

Amidst these successes, he - like many designers - soon launched fragrances. The two Chypre classics of 1979, both in the form of EdT, as well as EdP, are certainly among the most famous perfumes that bear his name.

Scherrer 2 EdT, on the other hand, goes in a slightly different direction. It is a sensual-spicy oriental floral bouquet that grabbed me right away. Warm, balsamic, animalic, clean, floral; all adjectives I would ascribe to this fragrance.

Immediately upon smelling the spray head, I was very taken. At the beginning you perceive namely the intense floral notes, which form a wonderfully refreshing unit with a fruity tangerine note. It imagines one stands in a garden of wonderfully fragrant flowers, and enjoys just a tingly juicy tangerine.

But the first spicy tones are not long in coming, because here I perceive in particular the cinnamon and myrrh. These replace the initial flower power and give the fragrance its sensual-spicy and slightly sweet-balsamic accord, which is also enveloped by minimal resinous nuances.

Towards the base, the fragrance once again shows its multi-faceted development by adding a soapy note, where I even smell a hint of animalism, but in a very classy and clean way. Overall, the fragrance also maintains its thoroughly feminine aura throughout the entire course.

The noble bottle of clear glass stands out with its elegance and is intended to symbolize the New York skyscrapers of the 30s by its narrow and straight optics.
[...]

I feel the fragrance just at the beginning as quite intense and would therefore advise to be careful when dosing. Here 2-3 spritz mMn completely enough, because these hold already good 8h on my skin. That he has a lot of steam in the butt, you can probably imagine well anyway due to the complex composition. Friends of larger sillage clouds are here certainly well supplied with and have their joy.

In my eyes, he is a little better suited for the colder season, because despite the floral character at the beginning, he would be me personally for warm weather a tick too strong and multi-layered in its whole make.

Conclusion:

The Scherrer 2 EdT is in my eyes a sensual-creative and beguiling-attractive 80s Oriental classic with a chypre-heavy twist from the haute couture world of the French capital, which I find insanely beautiful.

Opulent and attractive, sexy and stylish. Complexity in its noblest form is what you get with this fragrance, which I associate in a way with classical paintings from earlier baroque times.

Classified indeed for the ladies, I wear him nevertheless with pleasure on, because gender divisions or the like I have anyway never what given.

Wear and smell, what and how you want...

Fascination knows no boundaries - and divisions into genders even less...

[...]

Very dear thanks to Alliage, which has often provided me with samples of women's classics, as recently also with this fragrance.

And thanks to all who have taken the time to read!

On the shores of the Red Sea...
Stéphane Humbert Lucas, a French painter, poet and perfumer, is considered an admirer of the Orient's and his enthusiasm for everything Oriental he tries to celebrate in his own way in his fragrances.

In his Collection 777, the flacons symbolize the aesthetics of oriental sacred buildings. The number 7 is said to promise luck, spirituality and protection and is featured in triplicate on many of the flacons. The dome-shaped and pointed caps are designed in an extremely fine honeycomb structure, which is intended to represent, among other things, the magnificent sparkle typical in the Orient of many buildings.

The naming of the fragrance is due to the city of Jeddah (gladly also Jeddah), located on the shore of the Red Sea in the province of Mecca. It is considered the most important port city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's and is located in the west of the country.
His inspiration for this fragrance got S.H. Lucas probably from the blazing midday sun of the city.
[...]

With the Soleil de Jeddah one has to do with a basically fresh-spicy oriental.

Right at the beginning, it opens with a very aromatic freshness, which is however enveloped by slightly herbaceous-spicy chords. In the head, chamomile is given as a note and exactly this also determines the tone here. As a tea lover, the beginning is of course a treat for me as the scent immediately gives me an incredibly comforting feeling. In addition, the top note is provided with a touch of citrus accord, which ensures that it is not too herbaceous-spicy at the beginning.

As it progresses, a very minimal sweet note joins in, giving the fragrance its first unisex character. I attribute this to the dear iris, which can often provide a feminine impact in fragrances as is well known. Because at the beginning I could imagine that he can act on many ladies too masculine.

Towards the base, however, the herbaceous-spicy notes have long left the stage and hand over to a sensual vanilla note the main role. But this vanilla is not at all as dense and voluminous as you might know it from other vanilla-heavy perfumes. Still floats namely a slight breeze of freshness with, which is just responsible for this very friendly and pleasant basic character, which radiates the fragrance in my eyes.
[...]

The durability is on my skin with about 7h to be considered very good as I find. I perceive in the first 3h a larger cloud of fragrance, which then withdraws somewhat and is still close to the skin to perceive.

Due to its composition, I find you can wear the Soleil de Jeddah without further ado throughout the year as well as for any occasion. If I had to commit to one or more seasons, I would choose both spring and fall. He is described here as oriental, but he is not a typical Oriental in my eyes; fresh-spicy with slight oriental hints I think is more accurate.

Conclusion:

S.H. Lucas apparently attaches importance not only to spicy and sensual beguiling fragrances, but also incredibly much on the design of elegant packaging and gorgeous decorative flacons. You can see that already here in the pictures.

I like the Soleil de Jeddah really extremely well. I feel him as very pleasant, cozy, friendly and even slightly gentle. He is rated with a strong 8.5 , but with a tendency to bear strong 9.

As a tea drinker and also a fan of oriental fragrances, I find this fragrance very exciting and in a certain way 'unique', as it is called in perfumery circles so beautiful. Unfortunately, of course, the price is such a thing. But sometimes just fillings have to suffice.
[...]

My thanks to my amico Bastian, who sent me a bottling and I was thus my very first fragrance of S.H. Lucas get to know.

I don't want to be without you...
With you I feel safe,
with you I feel comfortable,
with you I feel protected,
with you I feel at home.

You are there when I come home in a bad mood.
You're there when the tears run down my eyes.
You're there when all I want is a hug.
You're there when there's just no one else.

I had never seen you before,
yet it was all over me after the first sniff.
In that moment everything turned around, my worries were swept away.

You are my light that shines forever;
You are my fragrance that laughs and cries with me.
I'll never leave you alone again,
for without Thee I would not want to be.

There are brands, with which one does not find at all and whose smells one simply so not at all agree. Then there are houses that have one or two great fragrances that appeal to you. And there are those that have beautiful scents across the board. One of those brands for me personally is Van Cleef&Arpels. More specifically, the series 'Collection Extraordinaire'.

Founded in 1896 and named after the couple Estelle Arpels (the daughter of a gemstone dealer) and Alfred Van Cleef (the son of a stone cutter), the company first made a name for itself as a manufacturer of high-end jewellery creations and high-priced watches, before they also launched fragrances.

Except for 1-2 fragrances of the 'Collection Extraordinaire' I have all been able to test and find them without exception beautiful. The Orchid Vanilla I have now recently discovered and he is for me one of the most wonderful as unisex declared treasures, which I was allowed to get to know so far. And even though it's marketed for both genders, I personally see it more on a lady. Which, of course, does not stop me from writing a review.
[...]

This fragrance is sexy and well-behaved. It's pretty and seductive. It is sweet and kind. He is gentle and cuddly. It is romantic and cuddly. He is soothing and relaxing.

The initial slightly fruity mandarin note in the combination with the lychee fruit flows briskly over into a dream of beguiling rose-orchid mix and super delicious bitter almond. Next to the jasmine, the rose is one of my favorite flowers and here this is used immensely sensual and elegant as I find.

Towards the base, a sensual vanilla note joins in, which in combination with the bitter almond and the floral tones make me kneel down. A fragrance to melt away.

Certainly it seems at first glance more suitable for the colder season, but even on cooler spring days I can imagine it very well. In the evenings, if one makes bspw. outside a walk, a light fresh breeze blows, one notices the smell himself.

With about 6h on my skin, the fragrance has a satisfactory shelf life for me personally. In the first hour, he also radiates quite strong, before he he slowly withdraws from the second hours and is still close to the skin, but relatively intensively perceived.
[...]

Conclusion:

Even though I myself would probably not wear the fragrance, as I find it rather feminine, I will keep my bottling lovingly and carefully to sniff it every now and then.

To the dear Madame Legras, my sincere thanks. Through her wonderful package, I was able to take this irresistible dream scent into my heart. A fragrance that I would literally stick to a lady, because it is so attractive in a noble and elegant way.

And the series 'Collection Extraordinaire' I put to the heart of all who do not know it yet.

In the soft morning light of the earth....
If I claim that Guerlain is probably my favorite house, then there will probably be something to it. This already 1828 founded cosmetics company had me after only a few months Parfumo affiliation in the spell pulled, since their fragrances meet my taste as much as hardly any other brand does it.
[...]

Pierre-François Guerlain created at that time with his two sons the first fragrances. Quickly they were able to expand and the rapid success culminated with the production of the 'Eau de Cologne Impériale' in 1853. Empress Eugénie, the then wife of Napoleon, was given this fragrance for her marriage to that emperor, whereby P.F. Guerlain the reputation as a royal court perfumer preceded. For in addition to Napoleon's wife, Queen Victoria (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland) and Isabella II (Spain) were also among his customers. (Spain) likewise to his customers.

After the death of the founder's P.F. Guerlain led his sons the happening further and the enterprise remained until 1994, thus purely into the fourth generation, in the hand of the own family. The founder's great-grandson, Jean-Pascal Guerlain, was the last owner and also chief perfumer of the house, before it was unfortunately ceded to LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy).

Jean Pascal is among other things behind the creation of Ur-classics such as Habit Rouge, Héritage or even Jardins de Bagatelle. But before all these dream fragrances, he created the Vetiver in 1959, which is considered his first specially produced fragrance.
[...]

The Vetiver note is probably considered one of my three most loved ingredients, along with Patchouli and Lavender. And I have hardly ever smelled such a finely and nobly integrated vetiver, as in this wonderful perfume.

Already when smelling the spray head, the fragrance reveals this certain and typical DNA, which I always make out in the men's Guerlains. It is namely this "Guerlain freshness", which always catches the eye (or rather rises to the nose) in the classics known to me and I find so insanely beautiful.

The Guerlain Vetiver begins with a spicy-esperidic accord of intense lemon/bergamot paired with subtle pepper. This is but no pungent or slightly itchy pepper as one might think, but in a very harmonious way spicy-herbaceous. Surely the nutmeg will support this impression here also additionally, because this is said among other things also a slightly peppery property.

In the further course, the fragrance retains its wonderful freshness, without losing the hesperidic nuances; even quite the opposite. These remain until the base, but the initial spicy touch is moved into the background.

In the base then mixes the main ingredient, namely vetiver, just with that citrus / bergamot mix to a truly dreamlike fragrance of green-earthy soul with citrus hints. These are combined with each other so harmoniously that I am of the opinion to have smelled to date no such beautiful vetiver perfume, which also carries this designation in the name.
[...]

It's definitely a perfume with signature aura and can be worn on any day, time or occasion without a second thought. For a fundamentally fresh fragrance, it also stands out with a very decent durability of about 6-7h and as almost in typical Guerlain fashion, it is overall rather more restrained in terms of sillage. But so-called. "Sillage monster" and Guerlain? No, that would not fit together in my opinion anyway.

Conclusion:

Pierre-François Guerlain coined the following guiding principle: "Make good products, never neglect quality. Have simple ideas and carry them out conscientiously."

Well, I think the good gentleman hit the nail on the head there.

Surprisingly, I discovered this fragrance for myself relatively late. But now I have this timelessly elegant Frenchman and know that he belongs to me.
[...]

A fragrance that makes me feel like I'm emerging from the earth in the soft light of morning...
