A woodcutter’s walk through the forest
Arborist by Jorum Studio.
This weird and wonderful fragrance is a woodcutter’s walk home through a sun dappled enchanted forest after a day of labor. It opens with a blast of invigorating saffron, along with hints of the fir and spruce trees along the path. Wafts of wild herbs and weeds mix with moss and earth on the forest floor. The woodcutter is weary, his flannel shirt soaked in the sweat of the workday. Sawdust and tree sap cling to the fibers of his rolled sleeves and double kneed trousers. He smells of sweat and chainsaw gas, but he feels at home and at peace in the quiet of this place.

Old World Italian Beauty
Atman Xaman EDT is a beautifully blended leathery tobacco fragrance that conjures up visions of provincial Italian towns, cobblestones, old wooden interiors, wrought iron tables outside coffee shops, and the smells of older, well dressed country gentlemen. There is a relaxed sophistication found here that isn't trying too hard; the kind that comes with age and wisdom.

At its heart, the scent is somehow cooling, almost camphorous. I get clove, although it's not listed, and occasionally it reminds me of Andy Tauer's Lonestar Memories, although much more subdued and less smoky. The lovely mate note fleets in and out of perception, adding to its aloofness. And somehow through magic and the sheer genius of Villoresi, it is both cool and warm at the same time. It is a really superbly calibrated mix of notes, with immortelle and cistus in the mid, and the musky, ambery vanilla/tonka base. While I can see why it is often compared with Histoires de Parfum 1740, this leather is not buttery, sexy or sweat-stained; rather it is dusty, and the tobacco dry and leafy. It does not have nearly as much transition in the dry-down, either, where 1740 goes to such a sweet vanilla place, Atman Xaman remains more linear.

To sum up, I find Atman Xaman to be an extremely versatile leathery tobacco, but requires a certain level of confidence in the wearer. It has an understated elegance that can be worn dressed up or down. I wouldn't recommend for anyone under 30, but this could definitely be someone's signature scent. I love it!
