It's certainly all in the name
The name of this fragrance is accurate. As soon as you smell this perfume you want to save it for a hot date. An evening fragrance, it almost feels like an indiscretion to apply this while the sunshine can hit your face. It's a sin to be witnessed in this perfume, as you risk the chance of a mature, handsome stranger falling in love with you. This perfume begs to be experienced by candlelight and moonlit palm overhanging the quiet board walk.
It is sweet, but not for the faint of heart or the innocent. This fragrance means business - mature, expensive, sexy.
I use this sparingly as it can become cloying from the strong florals.
Right before the bouquet begins to rot
You ever buy yourself flowers, leave them a bit too long and then the bouquet starts to rot? This smells like that day before the rotting begins. And I said buy YOURSELF flowers, but yes, you can also be given said flowers and have the same experience *eyeroll*.
Before a flower bouquet begins to rot, something happens within the cells and they can no longer absorb water due to stem blockages (this is why you must trim them regularly to have a lasting bouquet). In this scent, you can detect that damp accumulation. It's full of water, too-late trimmed violets, and sharp stems.
Upon first spray you're hit with a combination of lilacs and wet cobblestone. in the dry down, you're out for a brisk walk in the fall evening, shuddering under the spitting rain. You didn't want to go for said walk but you've had a long, melancholic day and you'v been told going for a walk is good for your mental health. You keep looking over your shoulder since the evenings have quickly become darker. The sidewalk is slippery with wet leaves and fungi. You cut the walk short as you feel a pair of eyes burning into the back of your head. You take the back way to your house and the dirty corners of the unmaintained alley hit your nose for a second until you cross the threshold of your home and the bouquet of forgotten flowers quickly reminds you that they're due for a trim.
Familiar yet still Alien
I worked at Fruits and Passion for 3 years 2 decades (ish) ago and this scent reminds me very much of the "Coconut" Eau de Parfum in the long, translucent white bottle - I hated that scent.
There is zero coconut accord but because of my niche scent association I cannot help but think of being in the F&P retail store - black uniform, hot incandescent lights and about 56 different smells all whirling together to create one permeating perfume pit at the backcorner of the mega mall I worked at. I indeed felt like an Alien at that point in my life and I do not want to revisit that time.
As much as I hated that F&P "Coconut" Eau de Parfum, this particular scent doesn't bother me as much. Maybe it is the distance, maybe my strong opinions have loosened their teenage grip. If I hadn't ever smelled F&P "Coconut" Eau de Parfum, I can see why this is called "Alien" - It's difficult to put your finger on the accords you are smelling in this. It's clean - neither juvenile, nor mature, yet lacks any soapiness, powdery, citrus or green notes that you'd expect from a clean scent. It's clean in the way you'd imagine an alien ship to be - watery blue steel, sterile, ethereal and sleek.
Despite my attempt at an unbiased explanation and the alien spaceship appeal, I am one of the many who are turned off by this scent. C'est la vie.
This surprised me
I usually don't lean toward gourmand fragrances as they tend to dry down sickly sweet on me but the woman at the shop I was Christmas shopping at was an excellent salesperson so I couldn't help myself.
At first spray, my inital thought was watermelon. Immediately it took me back to my childhood - sucking on sour watermelon candies while sat on the edge of a sun soaked sidewalk. There is no watermelon accord in this, but the mix of pear blossom, blackcurrant and vanilla gives this a melon/fruity sweet combination that is so pleasant.
My partner was with me and he loved it, but was surprised I purchased it because it's nothing like I've ever worn - I'm usually a brooding, sarcastic, dark feminine-leaning personality and my scent profiles match this.
The dry down is strong with blackcurrent and vanilla. I've seen some reviews that state it is mainly a "vanilla" scent upon dry down. They're not wrong but I find the fruity florals stay true in this perfume for 5+ with my skin chemistry.
I recommend this scent for someone who wants a fun, feminine, flirty, fragrance that isn't fussy or too complex.
