Selling Grey Market Perfumes for More Than Retail

Selling Grey Market Perfumes for More Than Retail 1

I used to buy quite a lot of perfumes from Fragrancenet, but I slowed down a lot in the last few years.  Am I the only one who has noticed that Fragrancenet is inflating the retail price before marketing it down?  For example, Grand Soir, a popular amber-centric fragrance is being sold for a much higher price on Fragrancenet than it is FRESH at full retail price on Neiman Marcus's website.

Everyone, more than ever, we need to really shop prices because so-called grey market sellers are not offering the great deals they claim to offer on perfumes that are already easily 3-4 years old.  They expect you to pay as much or in many cases MORE than fresh perfumes at high end retailers.  Outrageous.....   😕

Marking up before a discount is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Fragrancenet can get annoying, especially if you haven't bought from them in a while. They start upping the volume of emails with each discount more than the next.

What I typically do is, I'll open multiple tabs in my browser for different stores I've previously used with satisfaction, add all my desired items to the cart in each store and take it to the point of submitting the order, so all discounts and shipping are calculated. At that point, I compare the total cost between the stores and complete the order at the cheapest one.

If I find a store I've not previously used and it has at least one cheaper item, I'll purchase that one item from them just to test their service.

FragranceNet and FragranceX were good ~5 years ago, now they are among the most expensive. Venba, Olfactory Factory, Fragrance Buy, Jomashop, eDiscountPerfumes, Aura Fragrance are all legit and usually much cheaper.

I've found it best to first search the fragrance on Google and then see what price comes up on fragrancenet. It puts them in competition with other retailers. I've usually gotten a better price from them this way. It pays to do your research and be willing to walk away if the price is more than you want to pay. I have gotten some very good deals from them. Also  they are not the only retailer. Shop around.

I used to shop a lot more, and Fragrancenet was my favorite. Unfortunately, discounts are not that great these days. Their inflated prices are ridiculous, please, don't insult our intelligence, Fragnet!

I like Fragrancebuy. It's a Canadian site, so there's no additional taxes. Prices are OK. Canadian dollar is weak, so that helps, too. Use a credit card with no international shopping fees, and use free shipping coupons.

I definitely shop less... compared to the pandemic years. Prices were awesome back then. All these recent price hikes are not helping either. I will probably skip Black Friday sales... and will go on a no-buy until December/January. It's time to enjoy what I have...
