How does Miss Dior Originale EdT compare to Miss Dior 1947? 1

Hi guys - like it sounds, how does Miss Dior Eau de Toilette Originale aka the one available at the Dior Website now compare to the pre-refashioning, original Miss Dior Extrait de Parfum Original from 1947. For added context, I'm talking about the new version being a galbanum chypre, and the old version, also a galbanum chypre, not the 2000s fruity florals.

I'm wondering if the new Miss Dior Originale is close enough to the spirit of the old version, that I won't have to spring for a vintage bottle.

Also, sidenote, could Dior have made their branding any more confusing? That's a LONG list of versions and reformulations that pops up for Miss Dior. I can't imagine how odd the original Miss Dior customers must have felt when their chypre perfume was discontinued and suddenly replaced with a fruity floral.

I don't know the one from 1947 so I can't compare. But I do have the recent formulation and it is bliss. Not fruity floral at all, but a true chypre. Sillage is rather soft though while the longevity is good. But the smell is lovely and very vintage-y. Nothing like the pink colored flankers that are also called 'Miss Dior', but have nothing to do with Miss Dior Eau de Toilette Originale. I always warn people not to make the mistake to buy those pink colored flankers and go for the bottle as shown above when they want what I'm wearing. But maybe test first ofcourse.

I had the opportunity to smell the 1947 version.  The new version of the originale Miss Dior is not a treason. But I suggest the esprit de parfum instead of the eau de toilette.

And I agree with @Ringtale, all these pink Miss Dior are very forgettable.

Thank you both. @EvitaVilla  do you find the vintage Espirit de Parfum better and more long-lasting than the current EdT? That would definitely make sense.

The new one, Originale, is more airy, powdery, and transparent. The original Miss Dior was dense and heavy, a true vintage powerhouse. The Originale still preserves the main elements of the vintage version; it’s just more subdued and wearable. Not a bad thing, really. It’s not as intensely mossy. They use different fixatives because many of the ingredients in the old version were banned. I would suggest going for a small travel size of the vintage pure parfum /extrait (preferably boxed and well-preserved) just to experience it. But for daily wear, Originale is good.

Also, vintage Miss Dior reads as animalic to a lot of people. I remember having a discussion about it on the forums, and there were different opinions. Some suggested that even the eau de cologne (the lightest version) was highly animalic. Originale, however, does not read animalic at all to me.

That’s so interesting, thanks. I think I’ll go for vintage this time- I love animalics and I love real oakmoss. I saw a bottle of EdC for a good price, think that it’s worth getting if I can’t find a bottle of extrait?

Yes! Eau de Cologne or Eau de Toilette in the vintage packaging ('houndstooth' bottle). Beautiful fragrances. And the prices are reasonable.

This website was so helpful, based on Kafkaesque’s review I decided to go with a vintage EdT for the same price (I’ve been having good luck shopping I guess). The one I bought is the tall, rectangular frosted houndstooth bottle - aka the “EdT Luxe.”  I’m looking forward to it!! Based on the reviews, and my love of Vent Vert, I think I’ll really like it.
