Is there such thing as signature fragrance?

I’m new to this parfume community, and I read a lot about people having a signature fragrance. Or at least looking for one.

Does that mean you want to kling on to that one smell the rest of your life? That seems so boring to me! We’re here for all the beautiful smells after all aren’t we? 

Ok maybe I kind of get it. Our eldery generation generally had one type of fragrance and we sometimes remember them by that but aren’t we past that in 2024?

If not, what is it you’re looking for? A scent that’s suitable for all ages, all seasons and all occasions? Or something that you love so much, you just want to smell it the rest of your life?

What’s your signature scent if you could only pick one?

To me, a signature fragrance means using the same perfume in public often enough such that people (friends, relatives, coworkers) identify you with that scent. Since I seldom wear the same fragrance two days in a row, I don't have a signature scent by my definition. 

A signature scent doesn't necessarily mean you have to wear it day in day out, I think. It may very well be a perfume that you feel most comfortable with or one that you only pull out on the moments that make a difference.

Personally I have a few of those in my collection. But they change as rapidly as my taste in perfume does.

For me, a signature scent is a perfume I have bought more than 3 times.  Even I don't wear them every day, I feel like I have to have them in my collection.

And you can also have brand signature scents.

I've always thought about signature scents as something the person wears often enough that it reminds others of them. I have a signature scent for work and a different signature scent for going out, but i layer other fragrances with them when i'm bored or feeling experimental. Keeps it fun! 

It can also be seasonal - something that was my signature scent in my teens would likely not remain my signature scent in my twenties.
