What's your "hit rate" with samples (or blind buys)?

... I’m not certain. I only have purchased a few Guerlain blind and they all get to stay. I got samples of Shalimar souffle de Parfum and I ran out and bought it; love it. I have a sample of Samsara, orange solaie (?) bosca vanilla forte, Rosa Rossa forte, Mon Guerlain intense and I forget what else. Need to get a sample of Mandarine basilic ASAP. At first Mon Guerlain intense was a no but not I’m not sure. I think with some Guerlain (my favorite house) I have to get cozy with some of the less dainty fragrances (not certain how to explain what I mean.) l still think I prefer the OG Mon Guerlain though.

... Raluko111 I get this creepy feeling that the more reviews one writes, the more it seems like the number of followers increases and it's not all of it real. Who are these 23 people following me? A few, 3 or 4 I know, and they are friends I knew from before Parfumo, a few others are folks I met on here, but I wonder how "real" the rest of the followers are. Anyone else feel that? In these days of bots and fake, AI generated content, I tend to prize authenticity above all else. I just have one follower 🤷‍♀️

I discovered Good Chemistry, circled back and went on Sniffari and now I’m back to Guerlain. I have more fragrance than I ever have had before but I prefer it. I have enough variety for seasons/occassions/my moods etc. I will never have such a huge collection that I can’t possibly wear them all in a calendar year or anything though. Ooh, this raises an interesting question - how many is too many to wear in a calendar year? (I am not being too serious with this question, haha). Do we go off the assumption we're wearing a different perfume each day, therefore 365 maximum? Maybe me having a predilection for Guerlain and being picky might help restrain impulse/blind buying. I’m nervous for my samples to arrive (tomorrow, allegedly) I have been obsessing over these Guerlain and now I will find out if they suit me/I like them. I think I’m a light/well-blended, je ne sais qoui. I’m still shocked I don’t like LVEB, others in that vein; they have a rank, astringent note I can’t stand.

... Not sure if I’ve commented on this thread, yet, but my vote goes to Mon Guerlain! I blind bought it for Christmas for myself and it knocked me over and transported me to Heaven. I don’t know what it is about it, but I love it.

... Aquarius1 - "A*Men / Angel Men | Mugler" - "A*Men Pure Malt | Mugler" - "Joop! Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Joop!" - "Alien Man | Mugler" - "Tobacco Vanille (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford" - "Althaïr | Parfums de Marly" There is a bit of a mugler theme in my disliked perfumes, but after trying "A*Men Ultra Zest | Mugler" I was rather optimistic in trying other scents from the brand. I feel they are an aquired taste and one that does not vibe with me. To me, they're some of the absolute worst scents I have ever smelled. Kudos if you can pull them off, but I can't stand them. Especially Pure Malt. Joop Homme isn't that bad to me, but it should come with a hazard warning. It penetrates the nostrils and kills flies in a kilometer radius, it is super intrusive. It was one of the first fragrances in my collection and the feedback from others was not mild to say the least. Let's just say their dislike feeded my dislike of it over time to the point I stopped wearing it. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is not thaaaat bad, but it smells like a million vanilla candles I've smelled before. Sure, smells good, but walking around a lit vanilla candle gives the same effect. Lastly, I grew dislike to Althaïr mostly due to the glowing reviews and my love for vanilla, so I just had to try it. Blindbuy worthy, so to say. but it was a massive letdown for me. Super powdery on me and I would have expected it to totally be something in my wheelhouse but it did not vibe with me at all. I smelled some mugler/alien perfumes at Sephora and yuccckkk I didn’t like them.

... meowchu They're completely different! L'Instant Magic is super powdery, clean and with a hint of sugar and almond. That almond bit gives me pause. Now I like to eat almonds (especially if they’re coated in chocolate haha) but I despise artificial almond scent like in hand soap. I used to *intensely* despise that smell. 😳

... JSO60 Look at the Aqua Allegoria line. Consider "Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic | Guerlain" though there are a lot of good choices. That one fascinates me. I’m either going to blind buy or get a sample first.

... Ringtale PerfumeL0v3r I only got L’Instant de Guerlain more recently and now I’ve heard about L’Instant Magic. How are they related? Are they flankers of something? The site I just got Guerlain samples from didn’t have L’Instant Magic. 🤔 I only have "L'Instant Magic (Eau de Parfum) | Guerlain" I liked it at first and it is liked by many, but I find it very, very, sweet, a bit synthetic also and maybe my least 'Geurlainesque' one of the house. I find it misses that sophisticated touch Guerlain offers in most of their classic perfumes...But ofcourse it is personal. (Your post reminded me to edit and re-rate my review..:-)) Thanks! I’ll give it a pass for now. L’Instant de Guerlain smells like sophisticated, expensive orange candy or something to me. I got excited thinking the Magic variant smells like OG The Body Shop White Musk as I adored it back in the day.

Ringtale Hello, I would recomment "Insolence (Eau de Parfum) | Guerlain" there is some Iris in it too, but if you can't smell violet in there, I wouldn't know what to recomment...a very strong violet scent :-). I concur. This is an *intense* violets fragrance. It’s like getting slapped by a bouquet of violets on steroids. The EdT and EdP are so strong I can smell them, with the lids on from feet away. At first I found them to be too strange for me but I’m beginning to enjoy. They were the only fragrances I have I could even remotely smell when I had COVID anosmia. I would spray them all over myself for a fleeting anything and I used them to retrain my brain to recognize scents.
