Your best blindbuys

I'm still a baby frag collector who only has 6 full sized bottles. Half of them were blind buys. All of them were wonderful. That's not to say I'm just blindly throwing my money at anything that looks cool. Well, to a point I am doing exactly that, but... Uh...

At the time of writing this, I have tested 65 different fragrances. Out of those 65 I loved 3 enough to buy a full bottle. That's technically a 4,5% chance of me throwing money at something. But all of those 3 were from Loewe, and the majority of close contenders that I didn't like as much, but still rated highly – were also from them.

And they're a pain to get samples of (from trusted sources) where I live, and barely any local perfume shops stock them, and the note compositions sound right up my alley... And so I shrugged and blind bought a bottle to see if my hunch that I will like it was correct. And I was correct. 001 Man Eau de Parfum was delightful. And so I shrugged and blind bought another bottle to see if my hunch that I will like it was correct. And yet again I was correct. And Solo Atlas was delicious. And so I shrugged and blind bought a third bottle to see if my hunch that I will like it was correct. And for the third time in a row I was correct. 7 Anónimo was beautiful.

This probably has the same connotations for my perfume collecting journey as a newbie going to the casino for the first time and immediately hitting a jackpot. But I'm sure it'll be fine, let's not think about it, lol.

Loewe has a lot of great stuff it seems @Ursaw , I need to dive into that some more. Maybe it didn’t get my attention because it’s also an electronics brand which I found a bit weird.

@Ceesie like with everything else in life, it's a matter of personal taste. I think they're the best thing since sliced bread, but I'm just one person. If they are available/accessible where you live – all I can recommend is giving them an unbiased closer look and forming your own opinion ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ )

That aside, you're thinking about a different Loewe. There's Loewe AG (also often written as Loewe., with a dot at the end) – they're a German electronics manufacturer. And then there's Loewe – the Spanish luxury fashion house. They specialize first and foremost in leatherwork and other clothing, but also produce a selection of perfumes and home scents. Can't say anything about the clothes since they're way out of my tax bracket, but the perfumes are beautiful, I really vibe with their vision ( ∩´͈ ᐜ `͈∩)

I also tried the Legendary series at the Guerlain counter yesterday, and I almost fell into the dangerous illusion of thinking, "I might like any Guerlain I buy." However, I don't want to increase my belongings, so I'm going to continue trying the decanter.

Two points below. I'm in a similar situation to you. I bought it at a price that I didn't mind failing. To be honest, it's a mild scent that everyone will like, so I thought it was natural that it would be a hit.
Escale à Portofino

I thought I could read the scent, so I was right to buy this one.

Sweet Tooth Caramel Dream Eau de Parfum

By the way, this is just a guess, but just like Ceesie and I like Guerlain, ursaw also likes certain brands. In other words, I think it's because the base and scent of a certain brand of perfume suit the person's constitution and preferences. To be honest, unless it's a combination that I really dislike, I'm happy to have a routine of Guerlain and Diptyque for the rest of my life.

I'm not a blind buyer, but I once bought a bottle because of its beautiful design, its navy blue, and it turned out to be Guet Apens by Guerlain.  so, This has been my best blind buy!

Cedro di Diamante This smells like sugary lemonade with a nice soft and woody base!

Mrs Gloss's Lemon Sherbet Eau de Parfum This is another lemonade perfume but it smells different to the previous one, this one smells fizzy and the marshmallow note shines through beautifully

Tihota This is just the best plain vanilla perfume I've smelled. It almost smells like marshmallows on my skin.

Biancolatte I hate Giardini Toscana's Bianco Latte but love Zeromolecole's! This smells like cotton candy and vanilla! Similar to Vanille but much more refined.

Jardin de l'Orangerie This is my absolute favorite orange blossom perfume ever. I use to not be the biggest fan of florals but this and Blanche Bête completely changed that mindset for me. I see many people describe Jardin as being similar to other orange blossom and white floral based perfumes and I have to disagree. It's so beautiful and that milky note is gorgeous and really smooths out the fragrance really well.

Recently I bought Cuir mauresque , I did not smell it before and it was like a crush on it.

"More Than Words | XerJoff" : Love this divine scent

Arancia di Sicilia : Recently found this one from Perris Monte Carlo and I must say it my new favorite!

Born Dreamer : got this for $16 at Marshall’s + some super inexpensive refills. It’s a better smelling version of God is a Woman Eau de Parfum and Radiant Nectar

Mudiyah | Al Absar: also got this for a steal from someone on Mercari. It’s clean, fresh, uplifting pear with a cool bottle

Zukhruf (pink) : better version of Yara Eau de Parfum and much prettier bottle

A lot of my fragrances are blind buys but I get them in 1-2 mL samples so I'm not counting those.

The University of Tennessee for Her -first blind buy; got from eBay and it smells vaguely like dissection labs but I'm keeping it because I'm an alum (GBO 🧡🤍); luckily this is the only blind buy I've been disappointed by

Eclaire- got this at Burlington after hearing people rave about it and it's worth the hype

Strawberry Shortcake -got after buying Strawberry Pound Cake body wash, smells almost identical

Three of my four Scentbird picks were blind: Lucienne, I Am Trash – Les Fleurs du Déchet, and Rose Délice; I liked all of them

I switched to Scentbox and for May I chose Draco because the notes looked promising!

I'd like to add: Infusion d'Iris Cèdre (now named Infusion De Cèdre). Also a blind buy, well actually half-blind because I already have Infusion d'Iris (2015) Eau de Parfum and I knew they share some similarities.

And this one is just as lovely. They are like twins, just not identical.

Best blind buy for me was Nitesurf Neroli. This is the smell of comfortably hot and humid summer nights to me. I love it so much and it tends to garner compliments.

Worst was Ottoman Empire Part II Extrait de Parfum which smells like nothing but cinnamon on my skin.

Fragile Eau de Parfum Bought this in 2000 just for the bottle mainly haha. It has ended up being one all my all time favourites.

Boucheron (1988) Eau de Parfum Bought this in 1999 (I was 17 years old) due to the fantastic low price & the bottle design. Has ended up being one all my all time favourites! best affordable perfume by far

Étoile d'une Nuit I had a sample of Tenue de Soirée I really liked it so I thought I’d take a chance on this one & I actually prefer it over Tenue de Soiree.

Folie d'un Soir Same thing here I really liked both Étoile d'une Nuit & Tenue de Soiree so thought I’d get this to finish off the set, not as good as the other two but I like it. (I had a sample of Nuit et Confidences i didn’t like it at all)

Roberto Cavalli (2012) Great value for money, it is very nice & quite unique too. I use this as an everyday fragrance often.

Diva Rouge Bought this recently due to the low price (& for the fact I like the original Diva so I was curious about it) & I was very surprised by it! very nice (one could think because of the bottle it will be rubbish) definitely one of my best blind buys due to low expectations.

Red Pearl Very Beautiful & excellent price if you can find it.

Jaïpur Bracelet A lovely summer fragrance, almost identical to Pure Poison By Dior (minus the jasmine) very affordable.

Anne Klein Eau de Parfum Definitely one of my best blind buys.. it’s becoming harder to find now though.

Maîtresse Was a nice one for the price at the time (discontinued now but can find it for quite a good price I have noticed) used it as an everyday one often.

I don't usually blindbuy fragrances but as a lover of minty fragrances and after hearing positive opinions on Enclave I bought it without trying a decant or sample. For me it was a bullseye, it met my expectations and I loved it ever since.

The other blindbuy was Tonka Cola mostly due to my intrigue of the cola note and I did not regret blindbuying it. I get the (cherry) coca cola note and the smell, longevity and sillage are firing on all cilinders for me, great stuff.

Not sure if I’ve commented on this thread, yet, but my vote goes to Mon Guerlain! I blind bought it for Christmas for myself and it knocked me over and transported me to Heaven. I don’t know what it is about it, but I love it.
