What are your favourite and least favourite bottle designs?

Akkad is a piece of art I have it on a shelf in my bedroom and it looks like a little sculpture.

Otherwise every bottle of Les Bains Guerbois (I'll just add 1992 Purple Night for reference here) is beautiful and handcrafted.

I'm pretty open when it comes to bottle shapes.  Two things that bug me though:

1. Tall narrow bottles. Limits the shelf or drawer where it can be stored.

2. Expensive perfumes that use nothing-special bottles and cheap labels. Le Labo comes to mind but there are others.

Favorite,

Xerjoff, Chanel Les Exclusifs, Prada private lines, Tiziana Terenzi

Least,

Mochino, Paco Rabbane, Byredo

I really like the Carthusia bottles. Not the bottles of the EDP's, but of the 50 ml extraits. Like Via Camerelle Profumo . If the cap was glass and not plastic, it would be the perfect bottle for me.

My favorite bottles also include Nobile 1942. Patchouli Nobile Eau de Parfum (the picture is very unfortunate, the bottle looks way better in reality) or Malìa .

What I can't stand, I mean really really can't stand, are those bottles ridiculed with Swarowski crystals. I don't think I habe to name them. That "fake rich" vibe just makes me cringe. Unpopular opinion, I know. 😁

i love "Comme des Garçons | Comme des Garçons", it looks melted, there's bubbles in the glass, it can't stand upright
also Kenzo Air Eau de Toilette (and many other from kenzo!)

i hate, hate, haaate Basilica di Assisi with that fake looking plasticky hand, also anything like Gruia. i just dont get it why they can't hire a designer for stuff they obviously can't do themselves

The Basilica di Assasi bottle is really beautiful, but flavors are different 🙂

Never owned any but I like the looks of the Jovoy bottles.

As I posted ly review of Fleur du Mal, I remembered how the whole collection has beautiful bottles, especially Soie Malaquais. In my opinion it can make a little bathroom trophy.

I love the simple elegance of Eau de Parfum and Oud & Santal Parfum.

As much as I find the Versace pour Homme Dylan Blue Eau de Toilette scent appealing, I would never buy the bottle because I don't like the design.

Favorites:

- Givenchy Gentleman and Bvlgari Essence lines, I like the minimalistic approach yet they look stylish

- Le Beau line: Very eyecatching bottles (although the leaf on Paradise Garden strikes me as cheap)

- Spicebomb line: May be considered a bit childish, but this manchild likes this bottle style, it goes against the grain and is very "What you see is what you get", a spice bomb. (Night Vision excluded. It is good but should have been given an other name)

Least favorite:

- Xerjoff bottles, Invictus and One Million line: Tacky bottles

- House of Sillage line: I may be a manchild but cupcake bottles is crossing a line for me.

- Duo Men and Duo Women : Is this a perfume to scent your booty hole? Does it come with batteries? Do you keep it in the box it came with, how do you store it?

I love my bottle of Fleur de Peau Eau de Parfum but I love the box even more Smile I always put the bottle back in the box after usage because it really is a treat to unbox the perfume, I then feel like a kid opening it's birthday present Smile.

I adore Loewe's botanical rainbow bottles. Colorful rectangles with simple text on good paper. They're pleasant to the touch, simple and consistent, and I can't get enough of them. Out of the ones I currently own Earth is my favorite. The gorgeous deep tyrian purple color it has in the natural lighting is to die for.

I'm also a fan of "simple rectangle with plain text on it" genre of perfume bottles in general. It's a design that works, looks good on the shelf, and doesn't take attention away from what's inside.

I do have a soft spot for cheeky campy stuff the likes of Fresh Couture, but within this category a bottle I find cute and funnyanda scent that I find enjoyable haven't both been true at the same time thus far.

And I also adore Nina Ricci's tiny round bottles. Like, look at Les Belles de Nina - Nina Rouge – is that not an adorable tiny potion? Awww.

As for the bottles I don't like, well, to be honest I kind of dislike most of them. I give most bottles a 5/10 rating because they do their main job – hold perfume inside of them. Yet I can't help but cringe at most attempts at being different. The worst offenders are things like Bright Crystal Eau de Toilette and Crystal Noir Eau de Parfum. I gave both a 3/10 just because I genuinely find them hideous. I felt so relieved to find out that their scent was also no good – because what if I happened to love it? I would have to hide those bottles under my bed like a teen in old movies would hide adult magazines.

Also, anything akin to The Icon Supreme for Women. Bright eye burning colors, odd shapes. Desperate for attention for no good reason. Anything that comes drenched in cheap plastic adornments, looks tacky or feels weird to the touch.

Bottles from Loewe's Paula Ibiza collection. I understand that they are meant to be eclectic, but this ain't it, chief. Like, what is this – Paula's Ibiza Eclectic? Those colors bounce off each other horribly. Say what you will about Cheap and Chic - I Love Love bottles, but those particular shades of white, orange and blue look great together. While the cap on Eclectic is just a giant random blob of apricot orange. I, uh, get very heated about colors...

I'm the opposite of you, Ursaw, sorry! I've never been a fan of the rectangular bottle shape... it just reads 'serviceable' to me. (I can imagine the Loewe ones being really nice all lined up in a rainbow, though!)

I like perfume bottles that are weird and kitsch, but they have to feel nice to hold as well... so no cheap plastic mermaid or unicorn, sorry Anna Sui! Thouq is one I love because it's both fun-looking (it even comes with a silly little bell jar to hold it in) and feels heavy and solid.

Penhaligon's apothecary-chic look is one I'm a fan of (they've leaned into it hard with their new collection, love that), and I loved Zoologist's old bottles. The new ones just don't display the art prominently enough.

I think the only bottle designs I actively dislike as opposed to just finding meh are things like the already-mentioned upthread Duo Men , Now Women , that one brand whose name I can't remember that has bottles shaped like buttplugs... basically anything where there's a risk someone could glance at it and think you'd left a sex toy sitting out in the open. I like weird bottles but I have my limits.

I like all my Guerlain bottles; they really nail aesthetics IMO. My Versace is cheesy AF.

1

I love Guerlain bottles too, @PerfumeL0v3rSmile And how could I forget L'Air du Temps Eau de Parfum that for certain is my most beautyful bottle Smile Beautyful perfume aswell Smile!

Hi, for me best design bottle are the Mona di Orio classical champagne bottles very beautiful and the "Musk collection" from Areej le doré it's art in bottle !

Some bottle designs I've recently loved:

Khamrah

Al Noble Wazeer

Musamam White Intense

There's many of the Boss Bottled line that I love the scent but I think the bottles are so boring. The latest Boss Bottled Bold Citrus is such an incredible scent but again, the old bottle, except now it's green.

2

I will never not be enticed by slightly smoothed-out edges on rectangular bottles, topped by spherical caps. Or bottles with spherical caps in general. Some examples:

Chloë Sevigny - Little Flower

Choux Choux

Nearly Noon

Seduction Theory

Marissa Zappas' bottles are absolutely beautiful too! Carnival of Souls

But my top favorite is Clue Perfumery bottles. Warm Bulb That keyhole shape is so exquisite. Oh, one last honorable mention is Odette that swan, are you kidding me

Now for eyesores:

Good Girl Eau de Parfum sorry I really cannot stand that shoe

Sunday when the cap is bigger than the bottle

LES evil!

Also any bottle with a body-shape or body parts.

Valentino studded bottles are neat, love the aesthetic box shape of MFK bottles. Don’t own any of the Guerlain unisex fragrances but their bottles are super clean and appealing. I like the sleekness of Mancera bottles. LV bottles look uniquely attractive, same with Tom Ford private line.

I don’t really care much for the PdM, Initio, and Xerjoff bottles. Not bad per se but nothing special. Montale is ugly and looks like hair spray, most of the Gucci bottles don’t look good. Most of the YSL bottles apart from the La Nuit and L’homme line look basic and boring to me.
