... "Rue Paradis | Les Néréides" layered with "Anice | Etro" Rue Paradis alone is a bit too ✨ pretty ✨ for my tastes, and it does well with something a bit more herbal.

... kittea Raluko111 The dude is not a perfumer. He never studied perfumery. It's just marketing and absurdly high prices. I don't know, I'm not against the idea of self-taught perfumery. There are textbooks and things available, it's perfectly feasible (though difficult) to do. That's not anywhere near an issue as much as the other stuff. Agreed, there's some very talented self-taught perfumers out there who don't have the arrogance or marketing budget that some (*cough*men*cough*) get. Serena from Ava Luxe and Dawn Spencer Hurwitz come to mind.

Your Perfume Hot Takes

Perfume Discussions
... Ringtale SarahN kittea On the topic of reformulations... My hot take is I think a) reformulations happen less often than the Internet would lead you to believe, and b) when reformulations do happen, the IFRA is kind of just used as a scapegoat, and the real reason is cost-cutting measures. I think this is true. Perfume companies seek profit just like everyone else. Just because something is in new packaging doesn't mean it's been reformulated. A new bottle of something will smell different than the old bottle you just finished, even if you bought them at the same time.; that's the nature of the juice. I don't totally agree: Reformulations are often done because of IFRA regulations: Ingrediënts like sandalwood, oakmoss, some sorts of aldehydes to name just a few aren't allowed from natural sources, will it be because of our own health, animal wellbeing or environment. And I think that's a good thing, even if a perfume may smell different because of that. Some houses are better in doing these reformulations than others though. But I find the 'snobbish' talks about 'vintages being so much better' useless and anoying, especially when people are blaming IFRA (like they don't care about animal well being, environment and such). On the other hand: Houses could be a bit more transparent about their reformulations maybe, outside mentioning the notes, they could tell a bit more about the change in ingrediënts and why. It's pretty widely rumoured by industry insiders that the IFRA banned ingredients could be adequately recreated with enough investment in development and research. However, that cost is deemed too high by management and IFRA restrictions are absolutely used to defend subpar, cheap reformulations. Capitalism gonna capitalism. Not to mention many perfume houses have been acquired by beauty giants that definitely do animal testing, so they're not particularly fussed about animal welfare either.

What do you guys do with empty perfume bottles?
MorganleFay
|
Parfumo Community
... Ayomiyukki We all have our go-to fragrances we keep repurchasing, I just don't have the heart to throw the empty ones away given how pricey they are and how pretty the bottle is. But I also don't want to hoard a bunch of empty bottles. Is there a way to recycle/repurpose them? Or any brands that refill them? I thought it'd be fun to repurpose some into candles but they're hard (and kind of dangerous?) to open. What do you guys usually do? I've saved two pretty l'Artisan ones (the old ones with the heavy hexagonal golden cap) for display purposes. Can't display full bottles bc light degrades the juice, so that works. When another pretty bottle goes empty I'll consider displaying it (Mona di Orio champagne cork bottle) - the rest goes into the trash.

Your Favourite Discontinued Perfumes ?

... kittea "Insensé (Eau de Toilette) | Givenchy" is so pretty and ought to come back. I haven't tried "Le Feu d'Issey | Issey Miyake" , but apparently it's similar to "Gold Heart V.4 | Map of the Heart" , and if that's the case I'm sure I would have loved it. Sadly it's long gone. In remember a school friend's mum had it on her dresser. I wasn't into perfume at the time, but the lit-from-within bottle seemed magical even so.

... Hang on, I saw "Poem a Day (Eau de Toilette) | & Other Stories" in store very recently (Heiligeweg, mocht je in Ams wonen) https://www.stories.com/en-nl/. .. 👆¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not quite niche, but do look at the Les Senteurs Gourmands line (https://erica.nl/collections/n atuurlijke-eau-de-parfum) lots of cozy vanillas, very affordable, I'm honestly impressed. And you might like the likes of "Volutes (Eau de Toilette) | Diptyque", "21 | Costume National", "Orchidée Vanille | Van Cleef & Arpels", "Bois Farine | L'Artisan Parfumeur", "Vanilla CEO | CRA-YON"

realistic basement/musty smell, or woody like an attic?
MorganleFay
|
Perfume Recommendations
... snoopygrrl This might be super specific but I've been on the search for a realistic scent that is either musty and wet, like a basement, or woody and dusty, like an attic. I have a friend who has pretty specific tastes in perfumes and I've been trying to search for something that they may like. They do like just normal sweet or fruity things, but this one perfume is their favorite cause they said it smells like "grandma's attic". It smells kinda like candied rosehips or jammy rose, so that's another thing to consider. Anyone have any reccs? Which perfume is their favourite one? The grandma's attic/candied rosehips one. Your question reminds me of "Good Luck | CPNB" which was meant to evoke old books/dusty attic but which also was a super limited edition as part of an art project. Maybe "Une Touche de Naf Naf (Eau de Toilette) | Naf Naf" , but i fear that may also be discontinued.

... "Ambre Narguilé | Hermès" "Oajan | Parfums de Marly" "Angels' Share (Eau de Parfum) | Kilian" "Khamrah / خمرة | Lattafa / لطافة" Having finally tried all four of them, my appreciation of Ellena's artistry has only grown. Ambre Narguilé easily wins against the other three in my opinion - more restrained, much better balanced, less overpoweringly sweet. Oajan is a competent copy, but a copy nonetheless. It's what Marly do, so no surprises there. Slightly more floral than the original which is a cute twist. To be fair, I dont like Kilian's house style so I probably was never going to put that one up top. They always do something in the dry down that gives me a headache. Khamrah is one of the nicer Lattafas I've tried but it's *achingly* sweet. It may fare better in winter, at a half spray, under a thick sweater... but knowing Ambre Narguilé is definitely going to put you off this one. Are there more apple pie ambers to consider?

Perfume Recommendations
... I keep recommending these, but green vanillas are just so good. "Vanille Galante | Hermès" and "Vanille Camouflage | Dries Van Noten" Neither are spicy or patch-y though. If you can find the brand Les Senteurs Gourmands, they do a bunch of interpretations of vanilla from the very edible to the bone dry to patchouli and oudh. Worth a try. Other brands to look into for summery vanilla, edible or no: Comptoir Sud Pacifique & Montale Oh! And the Mediterráneo line from Acqua di Parma. "Mandorlo di Sicilia | Acqua di Parma" for ex
