... They're completely different! L'Instant Magic is super powdery, clean and with a hint of sugar and almond.

... The one to rule them all: "Sycomore (2016) (Eau de Parfum) | Chanel" — a spiced, citrus-free perspective on vetiver that's still aromatic but just...hypnotic. Reminds me of lush forests from some forgotten island, there's no better vetiver to me. I like the Guerlain one too, and I'm curious to test "Vetiver Gris | Jacques Fath" too!

... Seconding "Infusion d'Iris (Eau de Parfum) (2015) | Prada": it’s the perfect iris gateway since it’s simple enough to highlight the powdery (and aaaalmost rooty) sides of iris with a clean, soapy background that adds a nice contrast to it. The whole Celine discovery set was the thing that made me an iris addict so that might be a good thing to look into! No one does iris as beautiful and fascinating as Guerlain and Chanel, and even though you might not like these, they’re a worthwhile sniffing experience: - "Après L'Ondée (Eau de Toilette) | Guerlain" (dreamlike iris and violets) - "Comète | Chanel" (glorious musky lipstick iris) - "L'Heure Bleue (Eau de Parfum) | Guerlain" (spicy, brooding iris full of melancholy) - "La Pausa (Eau de Parfum) | Chanel" (my favorite green iris) - "N°19 Poudré | Chanel" (powdery iris that’s borderline white floral) And just for good measure: "Iris Poudre | Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle" (dreamy iris) and "Molecule 01 + Iris | Escentric Molecules" (woody iris) are wonderful! You’re doing a great thing by opening your horizons – you’re definitely in for a lot of great discoveries. Have fun!

Do you ever have the feeling your collection is 'complete'?

... That's a hard one! Hmmm yes and no. I think I did find the brands/houses/whatever that suit me as a person, but I don't have everything I want from them - but at the same time, I will always sniff everything I can, discovering new scents and seeing what's out there... We change all the time as we grow, so...who knows if my collection will ever be complete? If you asked me 10, hell, 5 years ago if I would be into powdery profiles, I would give you a hardcore no, and now, it's what I wear most of the times. So who knows?

Love letter to White Florals

... Seconding "Do Son (Eau de Toilette) | Diptyque" because it sits in the perfect threshold of pleasant to excruciatingly loud white floral — but if you want to try a cold, soft and almost standoffish take on white florals, I'll throw my dear "Gardénia (Eau de Parfum) | Chanel" to the ring...a lot of people seem to wear Gardénia on their wedding day, and just one whiff is enough to understand why... 🌟

Favorite scented candles

... Love love love Diptyque: Vetyver is my favorite and it even spreads its scent when it's unlit! I have one for some 2 months, mostly unlit, and I can still feel it in my desk as I work. I love how vetiver really takes center stage and isn't masked with citrus! I'm undertaking the big quest to find the perfect Iris candle though, and the Diptyque one is not really it: its scent doesn't fill a room and it feels more like a fantasy Iris accord that is borderline candy violet, and even though that's nice, I'm still craving the earthy, rooty elements of the orris roots. I'm hoping to try the Iris Pallida candle from Carrière Frères next!

Parfumo Community
... God...where to start? I stayed there out of convenience, but after doing a deep dive, really understanding how insane the whole site org is + having witnessed a lot of the issues mentioned in the posts here...it just became too absurd to remain in a fascist hotbed that happens to have a perfume database attached to it. It's a perfume site!!! We're supposed to talk about Shalimar!! Not Mar-a-Lago!!! I will miss the funny reviews...but putting those in the scales along with: - too many ChatGPT poets writing AI slop reviews (yes we all believe that in the span of 1 day you smelled 50 to 100 perfumes and wrote about each of them as if you're Proust incarnated) - a UI old enough to start worrying about paying mortgage - Pride Edition perfumes being uploaded just to get homophobically shat on by douchebags who think collecting bottles of JPG Le Male is the Manliest thing ever - more and more morally corrupt people joining the fray along with the usual, miserable perfume snobs ...I'm happy with my decision! It's my first day here and I am loving the modern experience, the community seems welcoming, and I am ready to be bankrupted by the Souk. Hey everyone!!
