It's big, round, and dark green - what is it?
Our Seymour, one of our nicest parfumos, often provides me with fragrance news to test and possibly comment on, and he gifted me the complete miniature set of "La Collection de Grasse" from L'Occitane. Dear Seymour, I want to express a very special thank you for that.
The Collection de Grasse includes four fragrances: Jasmin & Bergamote, Magnolia & Mûre, Thé vert & Bigarade, and Vanille & Narcisse. The bottles are designed just like the "big" bottles, made of heavy glass with the "&" symbol in relief on the front and a black screw cap (pouring bottle). I proceeded alphabetically and tested Jasmin & Bergamote first.
In the - very short - opening, the mandarin is still noticeable, but immediately after that comes this big, round, dark green. Inside, it is red like strawberry sorbet and has black, shiny seeds - the watermelon! ;-)
For half an hour and also towards the end, Jasmin & Bergamote smells like a fresh, ripe, sun-warmed, juicy watermelon, without a hint of bergamot.
After an hour, the jasmine comes through - still accompanied by the melon scent but clearly recognizable.
It is not jasmine sambac, but the jasmine that we know, which grows in our gardens and is actually not jasmine at all, but a type of hydrangea called "European pipe shrub." Our "farmer's jasmine" smells strong and wonderful in June when the shrub is full of white flowers with yellow stamens, but rather during the day, while the real jasmine, or jasmine sambac that we know from Mediterranean countries, primarily releases its irresistible, intoxicating scent at night.
This fine jasmine scent, underscored by the fruity melon, lasts only about 4 hours, then all the glory is over. The fragrance is very close to the skin and also very subtle - therefore perfect for the workplace.
My conclusion: the scent is nice, but for me, not "nice" enough.
