Summer Rain

Is there anything more beautiful, more refreshing than a summer rain? I love the scents of nature, and one of the most beautiful is the smell after a heavy rain shower in summer. When the trees and bushes are in full bloom, they emit an incredibly lovely fragrance as the rain pours down on them. The earth also has a pleasant and very characteristic scent when it rains during the summer months. The air, previously hot and unbearably humid, cools down and carries entirely new olfactory impressions. Especially where trees are present. Whether in the forest, in the home garden, or in the park.

A fragrance that comes very close to this impression is Verveine Menthe by L’Occitane en Provence. The scent of verbena and citrus notes reminds one of fragrant trees and bushes after a good downpour. The mint enhances the impression of the still damp air before the ground quickly evaporates the moisture again, and a muggy heat builds up once more. The mint also makes the fragrance feel slightly cool upon spraying, a delight on hot days, especially right after a shower post-workout.

The wood and musk tones in the base are exactly to my taste. Bright, delicate, and completely free of annoying synthetics. The musk is so finely balanced here that the freshness remains, which only very few summer fragrances manage to achieve. Many tend towards a laundry detergent or fabric softener scent with floral undertones of musk. That is exactly what we do not have here, and it makes the fragrance unique.

Unfortunately, the pleasure lasts only as briefly as a summer rain does. Verveine Menthe is a very fleeting fragrance. If I hadn't known that we were dealing with an Eau de Toilette, I would have guessed it was an Eau de Cologne. At the latest after three hours, one should reapply if they want to catch a bit of this delicate hint of summer rain.

I have heard that the fragrance is now supposed to be available for regular purchase again. For that, I can only express my great praise to the charming brand L’Occitane en Provence. Not many fragrances return to the market after being discontinued. It cannot be ruled out that some houses occasionally take a look here and read along. After all, the fragrance has quite a few fans.

Lastly, I want to thank Floyd, who introduced me to the fragrance and even gifted me his bottle afterwards. A true enhancement for hot days in my collection.

Flickering Cool Mist

He comes, the flickering cool mist. It swirls on the horizon, rushing over the hot summer fields of Provence, rocking sparkling verbena and fresh mint, making them dance among the bright citrus trees. I close my eyes and let it happen.
Its breeze makes my clothes flutter, I feel its tiny mist droplets on my face, the refreshing coolness on my skin, in my soul, dreaming myself for a few short hours into a shady little grove of light woods, settling gently with the green and citrusy freshness on soft musk. Yet it is always very close to me.
When it has then gone after three to four hours, dried by the heat of the day, evaporating over the concrete of the city's canyons, I call for it again. And it comes, the flickering cool mist.
