Pink roses... In Tokyo?
This is not really a Tokyo scent to me, but I guess a metropolis like Tokyo can evoke many different things and scents to different people. So, why not a dewy, fresh rose like this one? Maybe I don't get it because I only know Tokyo in June, but this perfume makes me think of earlier parts of spring. Which doesn't make a lot of sense, as it's more of a rose than a cherry blossom perfume to me, and roses bloom later.
Anyways, let's talk about the scent. It smells like dew-kissed pink roses and refreshing citrus. Both grapefruit and bergamot are noticeable to me. Fresh, slightly sour roses like this often remind me of peony, and I would have thought that this had peony, too. The cherry blossom... Well, maybe some petals dropped on the roses, but that's it. Some people say they don't have a scent anyways, but I believe at least some kinds do. I always sniff them when I walk by a tree, with varying results. Besides that, there is also that specific scent that most cherry blossom scented products have, which is not prominent in this perfume either.
I also don't get a lot of sweetness from this. The pear note is absent to me. On the one hand, pear is a bit overused at the moment, so maybe it's better this way, but on the other hand, a crisp green pear would have fit nicely with the other notes.
The base is mainly white musk, slightly creamy, clean and fluffy. It doesn't distract from the rose and citrus.
The bottle is stunning, a standout even among the other beautiful Contes bottles, but the coloring is not right in my opinion. This is so very clearly a pink scent! Putting it into a dark green bottle is misleading. It should be a lovely muted pink with maybe some green accents, still with the flowers and crane motive of course.
All in all, I enjoy this scent, but I don't see me wearing it. Guess I like my roses a bit sweeter. If you like yours dewy with tart citrus accents, it's a nice choice.
