Suede and Sandalwood

Reminds me of one of my favorite florist/plant shops in the East Village that is always burning copal. This starts off with a very strong pepper note and the sense of deep verdant leaves. Very quickly I can also pick up the leather notes and something about it definitely comes off as softer and the texture of suede - perhaps that's the inclusion of sandalwood in the blend. The fig and mango notes are there, but very muted to my nose. This is lovely and sophisticated but perhaps not worth the price tag considering other options on the market.

Tropical peppery leather

Very peppery and zesty in the opening; I got leather right off the bat, too. Pepper mellows out to give way to tropical fruitiness that isn't overly sweet. I actually can notice the mango note, which is super rare! The fig isn't too "figgy", it's dimmed by woods and resins (especially, amber). Very pleasant, I like it but I have a feel I need more time to tell if I actually ~love~ it. It has the potential to grow on me, it's complex enough.

Peppery, unusual

Blast of pepper, spice and wood, sweetened to a perfect degree. Wouldn't be my cup of tea based of that first sentence, however it's so well balanced on every accord, it's not disturbing at all. It's kind of voodoo, witch in the starry night, deep dry forest energy and I just love it. It has a bit of a herbal airness up close and figgy-mango sweetness Very Up close, like if you press your nose into the skin. It almost smells like a very far away cousin of L'eau Papier, much more woody and bodied though. I don't know what the trail is like, I've just smelled it on me up close, but it's not choking either.

Spicy margaritas and taxidermy

I don’t generally like fruity scents but this is a really well done version. I definitely get the red pepper at the top as it feels slightly spicy as in hot. It stays in the back of your throat like the aftertaste of a spicy meal followed up by something like a mango margarita. The fig seems to be providing more sweetness rather than making it figgy, but that’s fine because it’s a very realistic mango note. At the base I mainly pick up on Guaiac wood and leather—kind of like taxidermy but cleaner. The deep dry down becomes slightly vanillic probably from the amber. The whole composition is very unique and interesting. I look forward to sampling other offerings from this house.
