Forever Love represents the timelessness of love; inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Sweden, the fragrance is meant to reflect the harmony of natural landscape elements (such as meadows, lakes, flowers, etc.). This idea has been captured really well; but let's look at it in detail.
The
Forever Love ....
- ...starts with a citrus explosion that smells natural and is mainly characterized by the grapefruit, although the bergamot and lemon can also be perceived together with a light tangerine in the background. This combination never lets the fragrance wander into a "toilette-like" opening, while at the same time this combination also ensures that this fresh opening does not go into an "ONLY" grapefruit-heavy direction (like e.g.
Le Gemme - Tygar) - which is good, because fragrances like
Le Gemme - Tygar or
Vibrato are really brilliant grapefruit fragrances, but the pure focus on grapefruit does not allow this multi-faceted freshness, which I really like, as in
Forever Love.
- Then a slightly spicy ginger is added, which, together with other floral aspects in the heart note, rounds off this initial freshness with great floral aspects and, together with fruity accords (here mainly a light melon), complements it really well. Yes, after a while the fragrance takes on a minimal powderiness through the iris, before it then leads into a fresh, sweet, woody-ambery base, which is sometimes also characterized by amber, sandalwood and tonka bean; however, the basic freshness from the opening with the grapefruit & citrus remains the main player.
As you can see,
Forever Love has a lot of depth for a freshie and combines the idea of different aspects of nature very well! ...and yes, anyone who has read along carefully and knows the
Afternoon Swim has already been able to make the comparison, but I'll summarize briefly for the others:
- Even if the
Afternoon Swim is based more on mandarin than grapefruit, the openings of the two fragrances in the air are already similar.
- Due to the simplicity of
Afternoon Swim and the focus on almost four ingredients (mandarin, ginger, orange, bergamot), all of which are fresh,
Afternoon Swim is somehow fresher, "lighter" and more sparkling in its opening.
- In the drydown,
Afternoon Swim is far more linear and less diverse; it moves into a fresh, slightly woody-ambery base and this initial, wonderful freshness then unfortunately fades too quickly. This is precisely where
Forever Love focuses on diversity and includes floral-fruity aspects that really complement this citrus. Furthermore,
Forever Love has sweet accords in the base in addition to the woody-amber drydown, which
Afternoon Swim completely lacks.
- Through this multifaceted and exciting use of different ingredients, which we know also improve the performance (e.g. ambergris, tonka bean, sandalwood, lily of the valley, etc.), the
Forever Love projects more strongly, and for a longer time. The longevity is also a little longer in direct comparison; even if both fragrances don't last forever, but let's be honest, these are freshies!
To summarize, in direct comparison, the two fragrances naturally pursue different ideas, so a comparison is not meaningful... but because of the previous references to
Afternoon Swim, I wanted to do so, because I understand that in the opening the fragrances in the air already show similarities.
For me,
Afternoon Swim is a great freshie that implements the pure, citrusy freshness as a basic idea without any frills and smells simply brilliant. Like a fresh, cold, flowing river in which freshly sliced mandarins and oranges swim...
...whereas the
Forever Love zooms out of this beautiful river and depicts a landscape with meadows, flowers, forests and water, and this diversity is also beautifully translated into the fragrance.
