The Gate to Leisure
In gardens, I feel at home; this is not least due to my profession, as cemeteries also count for me in a narrower sense. There, too, I often tend to graves commissioned by relatives. And in gardens and cemeteries, there are now also scents. Some plants and flowers smell sweet and bright, others spicy and herbaceous, while yet others only release their fragrance in the morning or evening, only when it rains, only when the sun shines, .... etc. etc.... And this garden here, namely the "Herb Garden" from the Albrecht perfumery in Frankfurt, captured in a simple, classic bottle, exudes all these spicy, sunny, rosy, dry, and humid scents, long-lasting and well-perceptible, all at once. Not all at the same time, but alternating and oscillating with one another, and exuding a great measure of leisure and tranquility. A garden where not every bush stands neatly trimmed, and where a corner is left with wild herbs, and the lawn is not mowed every two days. A garden where wild, sweetly fragrant roses grow. Lily of the valley and wild iris release their scent. An overturned or broken tree stump is allowed to grow moss, and old-fashioned benches wait to rest upon, to gather strength and peace, letting everyday life just be everyday life. And, which is very important, to consciously perceive scents and store them in memory, to be able to recall them in unpleasant situations, and to bring a bit of leisure. The gate to this garden, large, oval, made of moss-covered bricks, can be found when you indulge in "House of the Herb Garden," a creation of the Albrecht perfume family from Frankfurt. Affordable, and on par with or even ahead of most high-priced fragrances......

Spice Garden with Central Rose
The opening is fresh and slightly soapy, but in a way that I still enjoy; it feels like having just showered. I suspect lily of the valley, bright rose, and possibly sage among the herbs. For a fragrance opening, it lingers on me quite a long time. Slowly, after about two hours, I can distinctly recognize rose (now rather a darker one) with a powdery overlay (iris).

The opening spontaneously reminds me of another fragrance. Initially, I thought of the opening of Chanel's "Coco." But with the sample I have here, it doesn't match. "Sinan," as mentioned by Florblanca, I do not know. So, I continue to ponder…

Two hours later, I perceive something herbal behind the rose and iris. That could be the vetiver or something from the herbs in the top note is showing itself…

Throughout the development, I occasionally have the impression that the fragrance is no longer there. But then suddenly I perceive it again, and a slight change has occurred: jasmine and musk appear subtly, the rose remains, and iris flashes through now and then.

In my perception, rose is also the dominant nuance in the spice garden, with its companions flashing around it.

At some point, patchouli joins in and gives the fragrance spice and depth without overshadowing the other nuances. Ylang-ylang and thus sweetness or something lovely I still cannot discern even after almost 8 hours, but that is probably due to me.

The sillage is initially expansive and retracts to a personal bubble within half an hour, which I find very acceptable. 6 ½ hours after spraying, and for some time afterward, I experience the phenomenon of still being able to perceive the spice garden well and then not.

If I didn’t already have two beautiful rose fragrances in my collection, "Ville de Francfort - House of the Spice Garden 1732" would immediately move to my wish list. For now, it goes on the "sample wish list" so I can keep it in mind. It can always "rise" later.

Jean Marc Sinan in Micallef Bottle
The first test of this fragrance blew me away! It can't be, this is not... But this similarity is truly astonishing. Jean Marc Sinan's fragrance 'Sinan' is clearly the scent twin of Albrecht's Ville de Francfort - Haus zum Würzgarten 1732!

In contrast to Sinan, VdFHzW is more vibrant and substantial. The opening is still lovely, with a lot of rose right from the start, but after just a few minutes, the sweetness fades, and the scent becomes serious and dry-herbaceous. The rose is now a proud flower, allowing itself to be caressed by the other fragrance components.
Musk is already noticeable in the heart note, but also vetiver and iris, which give this rose a dry, green-herbaceous base.

I cannot perceive ylang-ylang, but I think it ensures that the lily of the valley does not become too forward, as I cannot smell that either.

I believe Luca Turin would be thrilled with this reissue of Sinan, which he once called the best rose fragrance.

The longevity of VdFHzW is excellent, and the sillage allows for good projection even in the immediate vicinity of the wearer. I enjoy this fragrance very much, especially since a) it is still available and b) it is significantly cheaper than Sinan.

It is wonderful that a venerable and traditional perfumery like Albrecht has such a gem on offer. I fear the bottle will soon be empty, but then there will be a refill - Frankfurt isn't far away...

Two Gardens from Frankfurt
During my visit to Frankfurt, a stop at the Albrecht perfumery was a must.
This company has a tradition that dates back to its founding year of 1732.

The first address in Frankfurt was the so-called "Haus zum Würzgarten" in a narrow alley near Römerberg, which was destroyed in World War II.

The assortment at Albrecht perfumery offers not only the usual fragrance and cosmetic brands but also some niche brands and scents under its own name.

In addition to a Frankfurt scent (named after the city's area code), there is a series themed around roses and the series I tested, "Ville de Fracfort."

Unlike listed here, this series includes both a women's and a men's fragrance. This detail should be adjusted.

For this reason, I will comment on both the women's and men's fragrance "Haus zum Würzgarten" here, starting with the men's fragrance.

The Würzgarten for men is a classic fougère and reminds me a bit of Bowling Green, especially in the top notes.

The top note starts with a blend of herbaceous and citrus-fresh notes.

The citrus notes dissipate quickly, and the fragrance develops more strongly in the herbaceous green direction, and I think I can smell rosemary.

With the base, the green accord gains a subtle hint of wood, a touch of sweetness, and a bit of earthiness.

For an EdP, I find both the longevity and intensity rather mediocre and more suited to an EdT, but the fragrance is well crafted.

The Würzgarten for women would also fit excellently into the rose series, as the main note in this perfume, which is suitable not only for women, is a rather austere rose, similar to what you find in L'ombre dans L'eau by Diptyque.

The top note is characterized by an elegantly soapy freshness, and I would guess honeysuckle accompanies the rose.

The rose remains dominant in the heart, with jasmine serving more as a support for the rose note.

The rose holds up well until the fragrance fades and then experiences a minimal directional shift towards a subtly sweet note in the base.

The longevity is decent at just over 10 hours, and the sillage is rather moderate, fitting for the fragrance. Like the men's fragrance, the women's version of the Würzgarten is well composed and does not need to hide behind significantly more expensive rose fragrances.

On my next visit to Frankfurt, I will likely indulge in one of the fragrances as a souvenir, but only after I have tested the other scents from the Ville de Fracfort series more closely.

There are so many aldehydes and musk in here that it could barely fit in a can of hairspray: traditional rose soap.

Herbs? Yes, specifically valerian. Then a rose made from hairspray. Fam. Tester M wanted to give it a 0.5.

L'Ombre dans L'Eau has a touch of Chypre. Beautiful, very green, and rather dry rose scent with good performance. Classic!

The opening reminded me of solvents. I couldn't wait for the further development, as the scent gave me a headache -> off it goes.

Floral-spicy hits the mark! On me, it's more masculine-herb, so I tested it on my husband - and on him: Wonderful, not really for kids...
