Rubens? More like Thomas Gainsborough
Even though I first try to understand the essence of fragrances before I delve into the pyramid, I do realize that I lack this vehicle to establish agreement, confirmation, or error.

What strikes me immediately about this scent, and as so often positively, is the fact that no fruity notes have obviously been used. The fragrance is never sweet at any point, not bright and loud, but has a dark, soft mood that provides a soothing backdrop to the rose theme. I also assume there are patchouli and woods, and in the base, I can detect a fine soapiness, so musk could very well have been used. It creates a very intimate skin note that I find extremely appealing.

As powerful as Florblanca describes the perfume, I don't experience it that way at all. I would associate Sophia Loren more with Habanita than with Catharina Goethe. I also think Catharina radiates a bit of melancholy. Nevertheless, the fragrance has presence and elegance. That is undeniable. It is also not a light scent, but I cannot detect the Orient either, as I miss more pronounced spice notes. They are here, if at all, only very minimal.

To simplify, I would categorize the perfume as a dark, powdery Bütenduft. I am certainly not a full-bodied woman, yet I would love to wear this scent without feeling overdressed.

I don't know if Frau Goethe, Johann Wolfgang's mother, was like this, but her perfume certainly is: a true powerhouse.

The opening is quite rosy and hope begins to bloom within me. ROSES, yes, oh yes. But just a few minutes later, heavy, sweet, oriental notes join in. I guess it’s patchouli, musk, vanilla, possibly honey as well.

Some slightly woody notes emerge in the base and take away a good part of the sweetness. Maybe sandalwood, but more likely cedar or something similar, and possibly amber.

The scent has a sillage that is impossible to overlook. That's right, impossible to OVERLOOK. Because when the woman wearing this fragrance enters the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, all eyes are drawn to her like a magnet. A presence like Sophia Loren in her best films. I believe she could wear this Catharina scent well.

For the rose-loving Flori, it’s too much. It completely knocks me off my feet and I am constantly on the verge of fainting. No, it’s not a corseted waist that could be to blame, but Les Roses de Francfort Catharina! Its longevity is extremely good - at least for me.

Hiiihelp: Lovers of this intense fragrance direction, please step forward and take over Catharina. I have the urge to keep living for a while longer..................

Gentle rosy start and then it becomes sweeter, darker, warm, and soft. Carefully dosed and at the right time of day/year - simply fantastic!

A rose scent? Yes! Fruity? Yes! Sweetened with violet? Yes. Powdery? No! Creamy? Yes! Heavy? No! Special? Kind of, but not banal.
