Spicy green
The opening of Liquid Dreams is peculiar to say the least: boldly spicy yet sweetish with also citrus notes, something floral-balsamic, on a woody-vanillic base. Basically a “clash” between sweet-lactonic notes, sharp-zesty notes and something balmy, warm, a bit “leafy” and woody, which I guess may be the narcissus-osmanthus accord. I thought I knew both notes fairly well, but here I had quite a hard time in detecting them – which may be considered as a good thing, as it means they’re really well conceived (or that this doesn’t contain any, but I’ll keep my good faith). Undoubtedly a nice opening phase, intriguing and positively “messy”, albeit a bit heavy and with some loud (perhaps too loud) contrasts; then it progressively becomes warmer and finds its “balance” once it, say, “tunes in” with your skin. The blend becomes then more refined, more harmonic, more focused on a quite pleasant and fairly realistic earthy floral accord with “dirty” and almost indolic nuances on one end, and citrusy-lactonic on the other. Basically it loses a bit of the initial sweetishness and overall power. Now, what I don’t like personally is a persistent, and increasingly dominant harsh spicy note or accord, halfway nutmeg and cloves, which is really haunting and kind of cloying, messing with what I consider really nice here instead – all the floral-earthy side. That, and some metallic whiffs and hints which come and go. Overall it’s not a bad scent, a bit 1980’s inspired (that sort of tacky loudness), but surely uncommon, far from trends and fashion and creative, with an enjoyable realistic natural feel. It would just need a couple of fixes in my opinion.

Fresh and green
This is my first April Aromatics fragrance and it's really nice. Completely natural and that is noticeable.

Liquid Dreams opens with a fresh blast of lemon peel and linden blossom, the lemon peel recedes a little bit (but is never completely gone) to make room for the flowers to shine. Although the narcissus and osmanthus are present, the linden blossom stays very obvious throughout the lifespan. You have got to love linden blossom and lemon to like this fragrance, but if you do you are in for a treat.

The ingredients that are used in Liquid Dreams are absolutely top quality. Liquid Dreams is somewhat linear, equally suitable for women and men and has a longevity of more than 3 hours on my fragrance eating skin. The price is steep (€ 169,- for a 30 ml bottle), but well worth it and if you are looking for an all natural high quality fragrance April Aromatics is a very good choice. I'm very curious to try the rest of her fragrances, next is Calling all Angels (which is just rewarded best in Artisan category of The Art and Olfaction Awards 2014).

Liquid Dreams will be perfect for the very warm days in spring and summer.

In the End, It Remains a Mystery
The opening is both narcissus-bitter and lemon-sour at the same time. Within minutes, the acidity fades away and it becomes darker and milder. After a few more minutes, the linden becomes noticeable and spreads its not precisely alternative-describable aromatic sweetness. It is heavy, almost bordering on the morbid.

Beneath it, a trace of something herb-sour, which I would describe as smoky, almost ham-like. Strange that nothing from that corner is indicated... Whatever.

Throughout the morning, the overall picture initially becomes quite strong; I cannot relate to the promotional hint of a spring meadow. Rather - maliciously said - the more or less gentle smell of decay could fit, which wafts from grass cuttings after a few days of undisturbed fermentation. Thus, I would never associate the scent with spring, but if a seasonal reference is absolutely desired, it would be with the latest late summer or better yet, a golden autumn.

This impression is not altered by the demonstrative use of the early bloomer "Narcissus"; on the contrary, for the core of the fragrance reached late in the morning, that garden-level stinker is seasonally independent in significance. A powdery-creamy-soft aura has emerged, which is… let’s say: clouded by an undertone of bitter narcissus. Gentle sunbeams have flooded the overripe, gradually sliding into winter slumber life. But now it is evening. In the meantime, it sets in early, and as soon as the sun begins to fade, it quickly becomes noticeably cool. Summer is over.

The scent is not quite done yet. The afternoon brings a surprise: It now seems to me that a kind of musk note is creaming in. The ingredient list for the fragrance states "100% natural extracts from...", but in the case of musk, this undoubtedly ecologically well-intentioned approach would ultimately be rendered absurd.

What else could it be that creates the creamy-soft base with which the fragrance quietly and with a truly pleasantly natural character fades after eight or nine hours? Perhaps it has to do with the lemon peel? With a bit of imagination, one could draw a line to the "whiteness" of citrus fruits. Or there are fixative substitutes for musk with a similar aroma? In another fragrance, the manufacturer speaks of "plant-based musk," possibly meaning ambrette seeds, but can they take on the "base tasks" alongside the scent? I simply do not know. In the end, it remains a mystery.

Conclusion: A beautiful, serious, and lush fragrance that I can better imagine on women.

I thank Gerdi for the sample.

Citrus peel plus some green-floral notes on a soft creamy-woody base. Summery fresh and casual, also kind of unexciting.

Partially a great scent that especially breaks new ground in the top notes: sweet linden blossom and tart lemon. It's powerful. I like it!

For me, it's the fruit & leather osmanthus that gives this scent relief, which overall speaks a finer language than many others from AA.

Delicate lime blossoms with citrus notes, not too sweet. Subtle daffodil scent adds excitement. Fine in detail, overall a bit too subtle.
