Lovely
A lovely fragrance from a wonderful natural house. I love the woodiness of it, although I would like more woods. With a note of oud, I thought it might be a darker fragrance than it is. The woods are coupled with a clean rose. Not a heavy nor antique nor even a soapy rose, but a very smooth, slightly sweet, garden-fresh one. Tanja Bochnig does natural rose fragrances beautifully, and Pink Woods is no exception. The base is fairly balsamic, albeit a too sweet for my own taste. Smells strongly of benzoin, as benzoin smells very much like vanilla, and I smell a vanilla-like scent. While it's not for me on the whole, I think it's a lovely addition to the April Aromatics line.

April Aromatics Pink Wood

Pink wood is a floral wood for fall and winter. The woody elements spring to the forefront in my wearing then the rose, geranium adds spiciness and the oud add pungency. Labdanum adds a velvety depth and patchouli adds a herbal touch. This is a very base/heart note driven scent. Perfect for fall/winter.

Notes: rose otto Turkey, Bulgarian rose absolute, Brazilian rosewood (sustainable), geranium bourbon (China), infused rose quartz, Earthy Notes: Indian and African sandalwood, Omani oud, oakwood, Spanish cistus labdanum, Indonesian patchouli

No Nonsense
April Aromatics are already a matter of taste before the scent test: You really have to come to terms with this moonlight bottled gemstone esotericism. I'm always torn about it. Critical engineering training on one side. On the other side, my father once sent various water samples to a lab. And indeed, the tap water infused with semi-precious stones performed the best. Now, of course, such a lab doesn't measure harmonious vibrations but mineral values, so everything is explainable. Still, it can serve as a reminder that not everything is nonsense where one suspects it.

For example, I suspect something like "squeaky" or "wood" with "Pink Wood," and both are nonsense. The sprayer immediately blasts a voluminous resinous stable oud rose at me, which, despite fruity strawberry undertones, blooms maximally in the dark violet frequency range. Sticky labdanum gum. A minty edge breaks the animalic, perversely pleasingly combined.
Pink Wood remains dirty balsamic, wafting along with little floral pain. A metallic undertone (the geranium) snuggles in and replaces the sweetness, bright air fragments in a dark woven scent carpet. In the stable, from which the rose, driven by the metal spores, slowly trots out and smolders the hay rebelliously. Wood only on the sidelines. Perhaps Pink Horse was meant, or Pink Oud - then there wouldn't be the doubling of the wood with "Precious Wood" from the same line.

Anyway, not a perfume for me, too heavy, but it might have to do with the heat.
Well made and absolutely interesting, I still find it. A welcome reminder that not everything is nonsense where one suspects it.

Rose-Oud for Wulksfelde Fans?
“New” is written in uppercase next to the photo of ‘Pink Wood’ on the vendor's page. We are supposed to be curious about what Ms. Bochnig wants to add to the well-trodden topic of “Rose-Oud.”

A fruit candy rose with a peculiar acidity on a dusty-resinous-sweet base is hardly diagnosed when suddenly a hefty dose of rose geranium scratchiness rushes in; including a masculine spice from the cold ashtray direction. Only when that has exhausted itself can the rose come back and now hints at a second facet, namely the soapy-watery one. A third is missing, more on that shortly.

Almost an hour passes before an Oud note becomes discernible from the background, which moves somewhere between sour-woody and barn-like, thus not loud, but stylistically has a certain edge. Together with the primarily fruity-candy-like rose, this creates a - in my opinion - amusing combination, because in my previously tested rose-oud fragrances, either the Oud was made less pronounced or a rather heavy-oily variant of the rose was used; exactly that is missing here. However, this is probably not enough for “original.”

By mid-morning, the scent becomes creamier, sweeter, and simply woodier. I notice little of the Oud anymore. What acidity remained in the rose has now been captured by a thick, resinous sweetness. Overall, the lady becomes increasingly candied, leaving only a mild-fruity hint that mixes with sugary amber sweetness. The resinous aspect at least still shows a certain profile: Labdanum brushes against the urinous and also delivers a tarry touch, which seriously darkens the scent. Those who want to smell something like that should reach for ‘Oud Ispahan’ by Dior.

By noon, airier resin-smoke notes come through, reminding me of one or another sibling scent and dominating the scene for several hours. In the afternoon, I briefly catch a strangely soapy note again, as if the rose were making one last attempt to break out via a side route (generally, soapy-watery noble rose scents are not that persistent). But that is just a hint; only sandalwood can gain a foothold, which has vanilla and plastic aspects and glides into the evening equally alongside the resinous faction.
In the far west of the Stormarn district in Schleswig-Holstein, near the Hamburg city limits, lies the Wulksfelde estate. The formerly simple organic farm has been steadily climbing the value chain for a good quarter of a century, as only a well-organized operation can do, which has nothing to do with sweater-wearing eco-romance. Nevertheless, one does not feel a bit duped ex ante like with “Aldi-Bio.” A former colleague occasionally shops there, although, as he said, “for a handful of items, a price is called that is the same as elsewhere for a full shopping cart. Well, it just feels better.”

The same applies to ‘Pink Wood.’ Perhaps a natural scent simply offers a better feeling, which may be worth the price for some. Others have various alternatives available for significantly less money. And whether “100 percent natural” is desirable in terms of Oud is debatable.

I thank Serenissima for the sample.

Begins nicely with labdanum, woods and a fruity-floral note. When the geranium gets bigger than the labdanum, the fun is over

You want to say rose-oud, but the oud is a bit overshadowed, with fruity notes and rose geranium mixing in the background. Still okay.

Rose-Oud of a different kind. Woods and resins embrace radiant roses. Red fruitiness adds the kick. Absolutely wonderful!

Rose geranium, fruits, and labdanum dominate, while wood and oud are heavily overshadowed: quirky and not easy to wear.

I don't find it very fruity. It's resinous and woody with a pleasant sweetness that feels slightly creamy. The flowers are very subtle...

A beautiful citrusy yet dark rose, supported by a hint of oud.
I really like it a lot.

What on earth causes this unexpected ethereal resinousness? A pleasant surprise, considering the notes. Rarely has the rose been so good (...

A beautiful rose-oud scent, initially wine-spicy, smoky, then light rosy, later offering leather notes and fruits. Well done!

I can't help it, it smells like rose petal schnapps.
Later, labdanum and honey join in. But schnapps is schnapps and stays that way.
