Mineral, salty sea air smell
This fragrance contains all my favorite summer notes – coconut, frangipani, jasmine, sandalwood – and yet somehow it was a miss for me. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. My initial impression was that it smells like something I could buy at Bath & Body Works, which is fine, but not what I want out of a perfume at this price point. The dry down was also kind of disappointing; the soft sandalwood is nice, but I think the kelp and mineral notes are throwing everything off for me, and the floral notes lean slightly powdery on my skin.

I see why other people would enjoy this, especially if you're looking for a subtle aquatic or if you're a particular fan of that mineral, salty sea air smell. But with so many similar options on the market, I would never buy a full bottle of this.

Surprised Me
Marine scents, coconut, and beachy florals tend to be more of a miss than a hit for me, so while I was intrigued by the notes and description, I was trying to manage my expectations before trying Sydney Rock Pool. Happy to say I was pleasantly surprised! Sydney Rock Pool is an unusual but approachable scent, with mineral notes and the aromatic, woody, vintage-feeling Arquiste DNA toning down the coconut and florals, cutting the sweetness of those notes to make the scent feel more atmospheric. Also, there's something in this that unlocked a memory of how it smells being in a hotel elevator after coming back from walking on the shore, in a good way. I would recommend that anyone who tends to hate "beachy" scents try this: it's a real gem.

Goldilocks of Summer
Sydney Rock Pool is an excellent summer scent. The mineral aspect is just enough to remind me of rocks at the beach without veering into unpleasant seaweed stink territory. The coconut and frangipani hint at suntan lotion without slapping you in the face with it. It's an aquatic skin scent, which is unique and interesting. The perfumer really nailed the brief on this one.

It's easy to wear and friendly. I've gone through two 0.27 oz. sample sizes and will probably commit to a full bottle at some point. It's like nothing else I've got on my shelf and perfect for reminding me of a beach vacation in the dead of winter (or the dead of summer when I'm stuck at home, lol). Layers really well with a body lotion I've got that's primarily lime scented.

Reminds me of summer at the shore...
I've been nursing a sample of Sydney Rock Pool from Arquiste for a year before finally deciding to get another one and eventually purchasing a bottle. To me, it embodies the essence of a perfect marine summer scent—refreshing, versatile, and unisex. While it may not be a showstopper, it offers a little more complexity than your typical fresh fragrance.

Considering the price point, I would recommend buying it used or opting for a smaller bottle unless you're fully committed to wearing it as your daily go-to scent. For me, Sydney Rock Pool is ideal when I want to smell pleasant without being overly intrusive.

Overall, Sydney Rock Pool is a fragrance that captures the essence of a serene rock pool experience. It's a perfect companion for the summer, evoking a sense of tranquility and relaxation. Whether you're by the beach or simply want to embrace a coastal vibe, this scent will transport you there.

Ughhh, I really wanted to like this. It's an okay, salty atypical beach scent. Turned nose burner/synthetic for me.

Good if you're looking for a subtle aquatic or if you're a fan of mineral, salty sea air smell. A bit Bath & Body Works to my nose.

Opens with a weird coconut. Mid is like an aquatic salt air. Dries down to weak salty seaweed.

I wanted to like this so bad but the mineral note is so strong I could taste it. It felt like I licked a salt block. And I could. not. scrub. it off.

thought this would be a perfect scent for me. Instead it reads on my skin as overly sweet and artificial with some minerals. Glade Plug-in core.

The brand Arquiste, which I usually appreciate, really dives deep into the synthetic drawer here (sweet aquate without Calone, coconut): meh!

Phew, I'd much prefer the cold water footbath at my local Kneipp facility to this rock pool Down Under. Quite artificial...

Unconventional + complex but rather linear aquatic
Maritime - sweet - woody
Somehow exhausting - too exhausting for me
