Post-War Era
In my search for the fragrance pyramid, which has unfortunately been unsuccessful so far, I did find the explanation for the somewhat strange name. According to Pierre Balmain's design studio, he named Elysees 64-83 simply after his phone number. He commissioned the fragrance to dab on his business cards.
I have a similar impression of Elysees 64-83 as I do of the other old fragrances by Balmain. Noble, rather reserved, quiet yet expressive and calm. The perfume was created in 1946, shortly after the war, but likely still under the serious impression of the difficult times endured. In Elysees, there are no components that convey cheerfulness or sensuality. Viewed this way, it is a perfume that suits a costume and white blouse, conveying elegance in daylight, not in grand robes or the light of crystal chandeliers in a ballroom.
I can't really smell a pyramid, and I don't want to get lost in speculation. However, I can describe the impression I have of Elysees 64-83. For me, the perfume is floral-powdery without fruity or spicy notes.
