Very helpful Review
Tensionless
With a perfume delivery, I received a sample of "Angkor Night" by Blend Oud. Now I have tested this fragrance blind. And I am - disappointed is an exaggeration, let's say; not very enthusiastic.
Oud usually works for me almost always.
First, after the alcohol evaporates, I perceive a mix of light wood and a delicate oud, paired with a citrus note that brings further fruity accents.
Then follows a relatively short phase where I think I can detect the cypress-like milky aromatic hinoki wood. Along with a creamy, almost sweet sandalwood and/or amber note. This creates a very nice soft scent blend over which a hint of rose geranium is laid. I really like that. I write in my notes: "Angkor Night" is a particularly beautiful special fragrance, although the oud appears more than sparingly.
However, after not much time, this beautiful composition is initially completely overshadowed by a very harsh fruity mix.
I don't particularly like fruity notes in fragrances; as harsh antagonists, I can find them successful here and there in scents.
Here, however, it is disillusioning for me. After a while, I find that I perceive a fruity-light woody tobacco scent along with clove.
I think: If that's all it is, then fortunately it's not a scent that evokes a desire in me to absolutely have it someday.
Then I look up the fragrance here and marvel at the detailed pyramid. And then at the price.
I note everything that can be noted here, trying to sniff out one or another listed note, such as rose. Fortunately, I did not recognize the juniper berry, but mistook this note for eugenol/clove.
And then I see: No reviews yet and only one user who owns it.
That's right, it is also a more masculine scent for me.
Now, after 3 hours, "Angkor Night" remains unchanged in its intensity, that is, sillage, although overall not very expansive.
And I again perceive the hinoki-amber note along with the eugenol.
The harsh fruit in the heart phase seems to have been neutralized by a very light wood note.
I no longer perceive oud at all.
It's just a shame that eugenol/(clove/juniper) always seems to intensify for me in fragrances over time, thus dominating all other notes and preventing the subtleties of other ingredients from coming through.
Overall, a very sober, matter-of-fact scent. A fragrance for every day, for all seasons and occasions.
