Foret de Komi
Purchased as a memento from my month-long trip in Japan, I'm now back home bathing in Foret de Komi. Touted as a mineralic-green scent inspired by a damp Russian forest, the scent really delivers on that brief. It's a damp, overgrown, and green forest clearing with a stream that pours over mossy rocks in the dappled sunlight. There's something almost fuzzy, maybe even powdery (?), about this that separates it from the traditional mossy-wood scents of Aesop or CdG. It's not dark, serious, or traditionally masculine.
In terms of the notes, there's a sweet basil (which I love) paired with a mineralic note that I often get in "salt" fragrances (specifically, Peau Salee from Teo Cabanel comes to mind). The brand copy refers to it as a "petrichor" note. On it's own, it's not one I typically enjoy, but here, it adds a stony element to the forest landscape.
I own both the body oil and fragrance formulas for this fragrance, and I think the fragrance carries the "petrichor" note a little more strongly. All in all, it feels like an easy pairing for most of my outfits and I see this entering my regular rotation.
