Ignored too long
In my early perfumista days I sniffed my way through most Carons and fell in love with several. Once acquired, they soon sat unused as I explored perfumery, discovering new passions. Tonight Nocturnes caught my eye and I sprayed it on, preparing for bed. What a beauty this classic fragrance is -- a heart of lovely, indolic flowers, a base full of all that's good in a base, and a top of citrus with aldehydes and some green notes. Fragrances like this feel familiar because they've been copied so much. In fact, if I were going to experiment with creating a perfume, I'd go right out and get myself some Bergamot, Jasmine, Rose, Amber, Musk, Vanilla and Sandalwood for a start. My Caron brochure says Nocturnes also has neroli and a luxurious orange is detectable in the top. Unfortunately, on me few Carons have the staying power I like, but they stay long enough to get attention and, in this case, lull the wearer to sweet dreams. Good job, Gerard Lefort, as per usual.

Lovely classical Floral
Nocturne is a very classical fragrance, powdery and flowery, elegant and sophisticated. Although it was created in the 80s, it is not a loud fragrance and far from beeing vulgar. And fortunately enough, it has not yet been re-formulated - like many of the old Caron classics, which have undergone changes which make me cry. Nocturnes is still there, not really exciting, but pleasant.

The one who wears Nocturnes
Being a far descendant of Aphrodite, she is born from the foam. Not the sea foam though. The story of a modern Goddess begins in a foamy bath and follows the rituals of hygiene. Her low-key style consists of a white freshly ironed blouse and a black skirt. She might have sacrificed the length of her hair, but kept enough femininity in the seducing curves of her body. She loves fresh air and white flowers - lilies, white roses, lilies of the valley, so her favorite perfume must be Nocturnes by Caron.

Nocturnes, a bouquet of white flowers with an crispy edge of cool aldehydes. Fresh, clean and soapy as well as sensual, innocent and feminine.

This apparition is inspired by a cologne fraîche version from a miniature, but could also be applied to the modern EDT (there are some differences in smell though).

Nothing for Superficiality
I completely agree with DeGe. How wonderful that there are still such perfumes.

However, it is true that it doesn't immediately hit you with everything it has to offer. You really have to engage with it a bit. Then a beautifully harmonious aura emerges. Admittedly a bit aloof, but there are certainly moods in which such a fragrance adds the finishing touch.

I can also understand Eternity's objection that Nocturne lacks romance. But the perfume puts me in a calm, contemplative mood with its floral accords. Just like a nocturne as a piece of music. Carried, perhaps in minor, but beautiful.

I find it particularly harmonious that the heart note resonates like an echo into the base, allowing the perfume to fade softly.

On the Wings of Night
Turandot is right, you have to immerse yourself in Nocturnes. A perfume that is hard to grasp and even harder to describe.

Nocturnes is the farewell to a beautiful day that you would like to hold onto. But no one can hold back time or the beauty of a day that slowly glides into twilight. A slight melancholic feeling at the evening of this day is underscored by an opening of farewell, slightly aldehydic, a drop of nostalgia from citrus notes, but by no means sparkling.
Twilight settles like a veil and brings nocturnal gardens and flowers to bloom. Iris, lily of the valley, and roses exude an enchanting fragrance before they close their blossoms for the night. The night spreads its wings and Venus awakens in the evening sky.
When the base ignites, with soft notes of amber and musk and gentle woody notes accompanying it, one wants to step out onto the balcony of an old house and listen to distant sounds. A cat scurries by, only its eyes shining. In the night sky, the goddess Luna passes by in her chariot of stars.

Cool night air, fresh aldehydes, flowers glow in the moonlight. Bright green, powdery + slightly soapy. On sandalwood cream. Classically beautiful + elegant.

None stands out, all the flowers are skillfully balanced by iris and supported by the base. Brightened by aldehydes. Best floral chypre.

From the strong, gold-green aldehydes of the beginning, a warmer, balanced floral composition soon emerges. (Vintage Mini)

From 1981: My favorite among the "old" aldehyde perfumes. Floral-soapy-elegant, recognizable, special. Unfortunately, it's been reformulated now.
