My First Own Oud Fragrance
Before a ramen date with my wife, I strolled through the main metropolis and received the tip from a good friend to check out his favorite perfumery. After the huge selection that almost overwhelmed me, I sniffed around a bit (hehe).

Many fragrances made my nose blind, so after about 6-7 scents, I left the store again. Just before leaving, I accidentally sprayed a little Oud Excelsa on my fingers and thought while smelling it, “phew, that smells a bit bad.” Fast forward - as we were later walking through the city on our way to the restaurant, I noticed such a delicious scent on me that I had to smell myself several times until I realized it was the Caron fragrance for which I am writing this review.

As already mentioned, the fragrance initially has an oud-stinky note, which fades away during the dry down. At least the stinky part does. After that, the scent unfolds. It becomes sweet, the leathery/woody aspect of the top note remains, and the floral scent mentioned in the notes here on Parfumo comes to the fore.

I find the fragrance simply outstanding and had to immediately check if I could buy it here or online, as the P/L is quite steep in my opinion. I was able to stock up here in the souk with a decant from a super nice souk partner. In the future, I will definitely be buying a bottle of this!

how wonderful - how versatile
Rich rose oud and the brand "Caron" - how does that work together?
Well, it really shouldn't work at all, as a dirty scent infused with rose aromas contradicts this brand, which I only know for its very noble fragrance compositions; even those of the younger generation follow this model.
But "Oud Excelsa" makes me sense right from the start: Something fits here!
Not only that: Over time, something very exciting and unexpected reveals itself on my skin!

Oud and rose scents - inherently a blend for connoisseurs.
Here, a coffee aroma emerges after a short time, invigorating the senses.
I have known for a long time: Coffee smells better than it tastes!
Strong spicy coffee, with a skillfully added dose of cardamom: This composition once again proves the well-known harmony.
And rose oud with coffee and a very pleasant woody note - yes, that has something!
Wood is the keyword for my notoriously rather stubborn skin:
After a certain time of sensual, spicy coffee enjoyment, oud actually transforms into sandalwood!
Sandalwood of the finest quality!
Creamy, slightly masculine and with an almost elegant, erotic sweat note:
But "Hello!": Who came up with this?
I love sandalwood scents, as is evident from my preference for "Noble Potion" by The Merchants of Venice!
And very noble, very wonderfully versatile is the fragrance development of "Oud Excelsa": From a little rascal to a salon with a laid table, preferably with a coffee service from Meissen or Wedgwood!

I fear that with "Oud Excelsa," my skin is once again writing its own scent screenplay; that wouldn't be the first time!
A great sillage (despite all the synthetics) and the very long longevity allow for all these changes, even promote them!

For me, Caron's "Oud Excelsa" is an extremely exciting fragrance experience; so far, this fascinating ability to transform has never repeated itself: Each time is new, each time is different.
A fragrance journey never resembles the previous one, and I admit: It can be exhausting.
On days when we pay attention to warmth, protection, security, or comfort in our fragrance selection, I would steer clear of this changing scent being!
My skin is a fickle creature and therefore moody:
With "Oud Excelsa," exciting times lie ahead, but they are not lacking in charm and elegance!

What a perfectly smooth oud this is. Not too medicinal, it hits exactly the right spot. Tiny bit floral. Very unisex.

Rich oud-rose scent calls: "The coffee is ready!" - what a lovely idea! Spicy, slightly woody, a bit synthetic, but a delight.

Cardamom kicks in fresh and spicy, coffee arrives charmingly late. Musty wood fades away. Floral accents dusted with powdered sugar,*

Finally some coffee. Cardamom adds a green touch. Oud trumpets, rose dances around the wood. A light sweetness connects. I like it.

Fruity floral, jam with chocolate (softcake). Suede with rose, a bit of wood. Interesting. Feminine.

Leather, coffee, a bit of stinky oud scent right after spraying. In the drydown, it becomes super delicious, sweet, and reveals its potential!
