Barber Shop at its best
As a confessed old-schooler and wet shaver, it was only a matter of time before I stopped using the 3-4-5-6 blade nonsense from Gillette, Wilkinson, etc., and ended up with a classic safety razor.
For this, better shaving preparation is required, and after many attempts, I now use the shaving cream "Musgo Real" from Claus Porto.
It is not without reason that this shaving cream is considered cult status.

The soap manufactory was founded in 1887 in Portugal, and in 1920 "Musgo Real" was released, a classic barber shop scent.

Soapy, clean, well-groomed, classic.
Vetiver, moss, and fougere characterize this fragrance.
For an aftershave, it has a pronounced sillage and a longevity like some eau de toilette.

As in France at that time, there were also plenty of wealthy people on the Iberian Peninsula who could afford the luxury of fine soaps and fragrances.

Musgo Real has been produced unchanged since 1920.

What is it,
that won't let me go from you, you colorless aftershave?
I try to give myself (and of course the interested reader) an answer to that.

About 3 years ago, I changed my shaving habits and banished the products from Wilkinson and Gillette from my bathroom (and ultimately from my house) and acquired some classic safety razors. Along with that, the question of a new aftershave became urgent.
It should
- not sting
- care for the skin
- and preferably smell good.

In my extensive search, I encountered many, many waters that stung and some lotions that my skin (and also my nose) consistently rejected.
Then I came across the Classic Scent, a truly great old one. I don't know for sure (a knowledgeable person may correct me), but this aftershave has existed for almost a hundred years. At first, I thought I would smell like I was in early retirement and a senior citizen's home (which I have nothing against in principle, but I am too young for such pleasures).
So I bought a bottle at a moderate price and looked forward to the next, soon necessary shave.

What awaited me was indeed something like a revelation!
The bottle itself doesn’t impress - it doesn’t have to, because the content makes up for everything.
The scent, as I opened the bottle, was immediately familiar to me, pleasantly familiar.
It awakened a feeling of calm and security that I hadn’t felt so intensely in a long time. It was a very, very old feeling. Certainly from my childhood.
I see my father in front of me, taking me in his arms, I perceive his scent - and I know for sure that he never used this aftershave! Incredible and yet I associate exactly that with it!
I feel calm, the day is flowing in its course. Nothing can disturb this tranquility. I am at home, I have arrived.

So much for the poetry associated with it for me.
How does it actually perform in reality?
No stinging disturbs the freshly shaved skin. The Classic Scent is more of a lotion than an aftershave. But still, the desired freshness and the soothing of the slightly irritated skin set in immediately.
The scent is fresh and somehow slightly citrusy and sweet-bitter at the same time.
It's hard to describe this scent that envelops me like a light summer jacket after a gentle warm rain.
For an aftershave, it smells very intense for a short time without being intrusive. After about an hour, it fades slightly but lasts at least another 5 hours.
Spacious? Sillage? Hmm... when I have the scent on, I move in the universe of the Classic Scent and can hardly assess whether I am still detectable ten meters against the wind.
Interestingly, it also appeals to women and I have not yet met one (which really isn’t because I meet few) who would have held her nose.

In conclusion, I can only say that the Classic Scent is among the feel-good fragrances. It is not a wolf - neither in sheep's nor its own clothing. It is something unique and somehow wonderful for me. I never want to be without it again.

Soapy-spicy-gentle classic of the highest order. If 'old-fashioned' smells like this, I'm all in. Great moisturizing properties too.

An unconventional AS classic (1920) that requires some adjustment due to its blend of green-woody and powdery-sweet notes.

A fine classic men's fragrance that doesn't feel too old-fashioned. Powdery sweet, wood, and spice. Lovely :)

Barber shop! Wet shave, grow a beard, whisky in the glass - oh right, the scent? Yes, this one! Absolutely.

At first, it smells fresh like summer, then like spices from the spice rack with pepper and nutmeg. The care properties are very good.

Unfortunately, it’s no longer being produced! There’s only the After Shave Balm left, which has a very subtle scent and feels too greasy for me in summer.

Soap, flowers, tobacco. Strong AND gentle. Stylish for both suit AND jeans. Guy AND dad. Evening AND morning. Familiar AND exciting. Old school!
