Tearing me apart like a Blue emotion
Courrèges in Blue likes playing the codes.
With dry, and cool metallic notes to offset the sweetness, it's part orange syrup, part glint of steel; somewhere between femme and homme.

Between the two halves is a typical - but restrained - 80's bouquet: rose-jasmin and tuberose, and orange blossom touched up with marigold.
Marigold scents are often more interesting than seductive, but here, Edouard Fléchier has blended his thoughts with feeling, and so, being an Aldehydic Oriental, or a Powdery Amber, Courrèges in Blue is both alluring -and- interesting.

On paper it smells light blue, like the colour of the box, but on skin it goes orangey, like the colour of the vintage juice. (This is the 1983 version, not the 2014 release.)

Like Paris - with Grojsman's Doc Marten boots, and Diva - arriving on a motorbike, this is a feminine - there's no doubt about that - but it resists pidgeon-holing, like Annie Lennox in Here comes the Rain Again.

Will be remembered forever
From the very beginning, “spring” flowers open. And I was not mistaken. At the beginning, the aroma exudes the smell of spring, a blooming meadow in the forest. A little later the aroma of bergamot and coriander was added. Peony, jasmine and peach start to smell in the middle. This beginning and this middle complement each other very much and do not go out of the way of the aroma. Well, at the end it starts to smell like patchouli, a little bit of cinnamon and vetiver. The perfume is very beautiful, feminine, and suitable for a cold winter day and for a date, or just to go to a club.

Spring Rain Shower
While the first designs of the fashion creator André Courrèges, who passed away this January, were rather provocative, as they were futuristic and inspired by the then very young space travel, he made a significant shift towards more feminine fashion as early as the 1970s, which differed greatly from the spacey Courrèges style of the 1960s. His perfume creations underwent a similar development. While Empreinte Courrèges, with its woody, earthy, and animalistic notes, was almost a masculine Chypre and Eau de Courrèges could also be categorized in the rugged Chypre faction, Courrèges in Blue exudes the essence and scent of a bouquet of flowers infused with plenty of greenery, having just experienced a spring rain shower.
Aromatic without a masculine touch, green-floral without slipping into the floral-sweet, girl-like-romantic without pink cotton candy, and slightly nostalgic with a hint of soap - Courrèges in Blue is a surprisingly understated Chypre for a creation from the 80s. Here, balsamic herbal nuances harmoniously come together with unsweetened white flowers and woods in a bed cushioned with oak moss. A Chypre that is also suitable for getting to know the perfume family of green Chypres, as it lacks the large portion of soap and the earthiness found in many older representatives of this genre.

The perfect day, the perfect scent, and taking off...
Already eagerly awaited: My supply of fresh vintage (!) Courrèges in Blue is here! And I dance through the rooms on this beautiful sunny day to Pharrell Williams "Happy," almost tipsy from my signature scent - for so many years.

It might seem crazy what I'm 'bout to say... Sunshine she's here, you can take a break... I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space...

Because I'm happy...
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy...
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
...
... if you know what happiness is to you
...
... if you feel like that's what you want to do

...and 1001 parallels to my original comment about the scent! I'll leave that in the drawer now; Angelliese has already explained so beautifully about André Courrèges, and I'll just staple my feeling in here!

I stick with the happy feeling because just like in the song, my first encounter with the scent went:

On the way home from university, I happened to take a tiny detour to my favorite perfume shop in Aachen... I deserved it!
My reward was waiting for me there, I had been circling around it for so long... but first, I had to take the exam...

But now I really wanted it: my first truly self-chosen scent, not from the promotion table, not from a friend, never smelled on anyone else before, and immediately completely MINE, MY SCENT! Bought, sprayed on, and back out into the sunny pedestrian zone...
From then on, it really took off for me - I could lift off, simply floating out of the gray facades of the street, into the blue spring air, exactly, no roof, no limit above me, just pure joy, pride, self-confidence. That was me! And I had made it. And now I had "break," time alone for myself. Suddenly, I knew what I wanted, that I could do it, and I was completely with myself, at home within myself.

And that's exactly what a signature scent is for me: at home and free within oneself.

This wonderfully balanced chypre creates for me this fantastic floral-green lightness, this gentle good-mood kick through bergamot and ethereal orange blossom, grounding my self-esteem with animalistic finesse and cradling me, protected by the finest woods in soft moss.

But oh - this is not a "little treasure," but a fully grown, spiced treasure with delicious coriander, basil, creamy marigold, and dark vetiver! The straight flowers, supported by aldehydes, do not fit into a Biedermeier bouquet! They demand the largest vase in the house and plenty of space for their extravagant arrangement! For that, they then exude so much beauty, so fresh garden scent, that it irresistibly draws you into the sun: That's how it is, happiness!

So is a perfect day with a perfect scent that belongs only to you :)))

My First Fragrant Handkerchief
I was sweet 13 years old and once again accompanied my (actually ALWAYS) mother, who smelled of Aromatics Elixir by Lauder, to her favorite perfumery. Back then, everything felt too foreign for me to recognize how lucky I was to enter a perfumery that truly deserved that name, far away from the turquoise scent orgies. But that's another topic.
As a thank you for yet another expensive purchase, the owner gifted me a lace handkerchief (I was NOT born in the 20s, I come from the 70s...) which she had previously sprayed generously with Courrèges in blue by Courrèges.
A year later, I received a proper Eau de Toilette, as my nose was permanently buried in that handkerchief - I found this scent experience so delightful.

And even today, I can hardly resist this fragrance direction: It is the interplay of delicate flowers after a summer rain combined with fresh laundry and - yes, I say it - soap. But the kind of soap that reminds one of a happy childhood.
It may be that some perceive a hint of stuffiness - I say - you are right, but this stuffiness has style and elegance.

So what is it that captivates me about Courrèges? Is it merely the memory or true love?
Regardless, I still perceive Courrèges in blue as a particularly composed masterpiece that simply not everyone can wear: Fresh without being fleeting, innocent yet with depth, and elegant without lacking esprit.
And that's already something, isn't it?

Wonderful scent with expansive floral notes, citrus sprinkles, a hint of aldehydic soapiness, and a soft mossy base. Chypre tones without harshness.

A chypre scent like a spring smile - charming, floral, bright. Yet: something about it remains oddly inaccessible to me.

This version No. 1 from 1983 had a slightly chypre base, which is less pronounced in the current variant. Unforgettable scent.

Proud and cool, Aldehyde androgyn sits on green moss, with subtly brittle flowers and a distant kitten following. (Vintage Mini)

Perfect spring chypre: fresh, floral, mossy - smells more orange than blue and reminds me of Halston because of the marigold note. J’adore!
