Magnolia Daniel Josier

Magnolia is the first scent I get to sniff from Daniel Josier. It definitely makes me want to discover more.
I craved magnolia, and I got magnolia. And not just that, but also a trip to the Amalfi Coast. Lemons as far as the eye (or nose) can see.
The best part is that I get the lemon in different forms. It's not a fleeting lemon like in an ordinary summer fragrance, but it blends with other scent notes and lasts surprisingly well.
The first spray in the opening: cotton candy with a lemon flavor. It's fluffy, the taste spreads throughout the mouth with the first bite, ...but where did the cotton candy go? After a short while, I need to take a sip of lemon soda. Mhhh, is there lemon cake in there?
Conclusion: Super floral-citrusy summer scent with a gentle creaminess.

I am in love. With Daniel Josier's Magnolia. Even during the first cautious testing, I realized that something special was happening. Now I am sure. I have immediately raised my rating from 8.5 to 9.5, and rightly so. From the first sniff, I knew this was a fragrance that reminded me of something wonderful. But what?

What do I smell? I first smell a somewhat squeaky lemon. On the cosmetic tissue, it can come across as a bit sharp, while it quickly merges with the skin, and those high notes fade away almost immediately. I smell the finest white clean musk, rounded off with a bit of vetiver, and then the vanilla comes through quite quickly, giving the fragrance a certain base sweetness. It doesn’t have a big development. The flowers, the namesake magnolia as well as jasmine and rose, I only perceive subtly. The name of the fragrance does create a bit of confusion in my eyes, as we do not have a magnolia scent like that of Acqua di Parma in this wonderful Spanish creation. So, anyone going by the name is on the wrong track with Josier's Magnolia. Personally, I am not bothered by the background flowers at all, as I don’t really care for them when they come across too opulently.

What else do I smell? Yes, fruits. I definitely smell fruits, sweet fruits, and I don’t just mean the lemon. The fragrance is, as I noted in my statement, related to Molinard's Musc et Fruits, although significantly less clean musk-heavy. I have no fabric softener associations like with Molinard here. Musk is not listed in the notes provided by Josier. But it is there, albeit more in the background. What is also present, at least according to my little nose, is a blackcurrant note. And now it clicks, because now I know what this fragrance reminds me of and why I love it so incredibly much. At 17, I owned a blackcurrant oil for my fragrance lamp. My then-boyfriend was into patchouli oil for his lamp, which, for me, who was musically inclined towards wave and gothic, was olfactorily a bit too "goth." So, little chick needed another oil. Something sweeter that would put me in a positive mood. In a craft supply store, I discovered this blackcurrant oil. Of course, completely synthetic, but lovely. Whenever the lamp burned in my youth room, the fine, sweet scent gave me a sense of well-being. And I feel that same sense of well-being now when I wear Magnolia.

Magnolia is for me a touch of childhood and youth. Carefree and enchanting. A little inner child is needed to appreciate this fragrance. The sillage is moderate, which is why I can also imagine it well in warmer temperatures.

Fans of Fresh Sugar, Molinard Musc et Fruits, or Bond No. 9 Bryant Park should definitely check this one out. It could become one of my absolute favorites.

I came across this fragrance again thanks to Ms. Eyris' tip. :-)

So this scent starts with a very subtle, soft lemon, lightly underscored with flowers. Later, a bit of vanilla joins in; unfortunately, the longevity and sillage (as is often the case with vanilla and lemon-heavy fragrances) are not that opulent.

At first, I was absolutely thrilled, happily spraying my 10ml AF around me.
But every time after a while, there was a nerve note, and I have no idea what that is. It reminds me of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, which I had for 50ml and which annoyed me quite quickly because of that very note back then. I find the two fragrances similar, with Magnolia coming across much softer and lighter, while Light Blue has a zestier lemon. In terms of notes, they are quite similar.

Magnolia smells to me like a Nimm-2 candy tastes, specifically the yellow variant. :-)

For those who like Light Blue, Magnolia might also be something for you. A lovely summer scent that you can never overdo.
