Amber-Goldstandard
Once again, my own rating feels a bit harsh: can you deduct points from a fragrance just because very similar (amber) competitors have appeared earlier, (still) better & in large quantities? Yes, I confess to that - because you simply cannot ignore the fragrant environment, forget it & even as a very good amber, you are not alone in the world. Actually, this fragrance could also get 9/10, but it lacks a unique selling point.
Diana Vreeland's "Extravagance Russe" is a great charmer, a hearty amber & a damn stylish fragrance - in its blend of Ambre Orient & Bois d'Iris with a resinous touch at the beginning, it is, however, very ordinary & just not special. Particularly pretty yes, particularly particularly particularly mine. I hope you understand me. A high standard that one must first reach, but not a creation that blows you away or makes you immediately reach for your wallet. At least that’s how I feel.
"Extravagance Russe" offers a deep-spicy amber, beautifully veined, textured, in many of its facets. Sometimes leaning towards vanilla or supported by it, yet still a quite pure unisex amber. The classification as a women's fragrance is to be disregarded & forgotten. Extravagant only fits the simple, fine fragrance to a limited extent - it comes across as less intrusive, nouveau riche or extroverted, not particularly Russian, but rather endowed with hereditary wealth, without any complexes & pleasantly keeping to the background. Aside from its barely noticeable, very linear progression & its similarity to other ambers, this beauty has nothing to be criticized. It makes you crave more Diana Vreeland, hopefully with more courage for uniqueness!
Bottle: slightly Asian-inspired, with a tassel, extremely chic.
Sillage: extravagant is written small here.
Longevity: there's no lack of quality - 7 hours.
Conclusion: flattering, delicious, unisex - if there weren't already so many grand amber fragrances, it would perform & resonate much better. As it stands, it is a high standard.
