You may have heard of the most famous tattooer alive - the person who completely redefined the art of tattooing and took the art world by storm.

Donald Edward Talbott Hardy was born in Newport Beach, California in 1945. During his school years, he turned many heads due to his creative drawings and sketches. Hardy grew up to complete his degree in printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) and trained as a tattoo artist in Japan in 1973.

Edward Hardy opened his first tattoo shop named Tattoo Studio in 1974 and developed his popular style throughout the years. His work was eventually featured in museums, galleries, and in several books.

In 2002, French fashion designer Christian Audigier entered the scene. The entrepreneur had made it from jeans salesman to chief designer for "Levi's" and "Diesel." Audigier was enthusiastic about the colorful and original tattoos of Edward Talbott Hardy and founded the label "Ed Hardy" in 2003 to expose the motifs (tigers, dragons, snakes, etc.) everywhere. Since then, "Ed Hardy" has created a loyal fan base. What began with motifs on caps started to appear on bags, fragrances, shirts, drinks, bedding, and sunglasses.

With its distinctive style, the "Ed Hardy" label made tattoos a part of pop culture. However, after many successful years, things have started sinking for the brand due to the worldwide overexposure of Ed Hardy motifs on clothing, school supplies, car accessories, children's toys, and coffee mugs.
