Fresh, floral & creamy
I have to preface my review buy saying that JP is not my kind of scent. This resulted in the average rating. It comes across as too floral to me, rather than fruity. That said, for a guy who does like this style, it can be a viable option.
JP's opening is citrusy and it quickly dries down into a smooth, creamy and floral scent with a touch of sweetness. It strikes me as a masculine scent because of subtle wood and musk. There's also a slight underlying bite, probably from the cedar and vetiver, although those notes don't stand out. The scent is overall pleasant and somewhat formal, although I wouldn't wear it myself. Longevity is surprisingly good - at least 9 hours - but projection quickly dies down into a skin scent.
From what I've read elsewhere, JP is an excellent substitute for L'Homme Ultime. I can't say since I haven't tried Ultime.
UPDATE (1/18/2025): I've completed testing all of the Guy Fox fragrances available in their two sample sets. One set is for the "Founder's Reserve" Collection while the other contains all their standard releases. Here's my ranking of all of them, with a few notes:
First group, ranked in order of my preference. These are the top Guy Fox fumes in my book - full bottle worthy, with Nightcap being the best:
1. Nightcap
2. Fairway
3. Vince
4. Nelson
Second group, no rank or order, just grouped together. Nice scents. I like them, but not enough to buy a FB:
Aspen
Primo
Mikul
Jefe
Preston
Third group, no rank or order, just grouped together. OK, somewhat generic. Mediocre performance for some:
Palmer
Tyler
Marra
JP
Fourth group. Just plain awful. Was almost a scrubber for me:
Riviera
