Grandios intoxicating
Wow. That is the first word that my senses give to this fragrance. And it’s the same Wow that comes to Initio's "Oud for Greatness." Which is not surprising, as "Shadow Play" is its complete copy. One might notice nuances in the single-digit percentage range, but the overall scent experience, including the brutal sillage and longevity, is 100% spot on for me, if not the latter even surpassed (it clings to your skin for well over 12 hours, on clothing - for days). If you hold them both side by side and don’t force yourself to convince otherwise, you’ll notice practically no difference.

Why "wow"? It smells incredibly sexy, sensual, and seductive. It oscillates between the masculine accords of oud and its spiciness and the rather sweeter patchouli here. Spiraling, it pulls you down into the masculine-dark depths, only to lift you back up into slightly more tender realms in the next moment. Yes, the name fits. This is truly a Shadow Play.

Shadow Play is primarily a going-out fragrance. Up on stage, to be seen and smelled. You wear it with the intention of standing out, being noticed, perhaps even seducing. It has the potential to intoxicate you and others. And rest assured, there will be noses that will fall helplessly for your fragrance aura. But: The immense projection and longevity alone forbid it in the office (unless you are a solo entrepreneur). In autumn and winter, it is certainly most usable, in summer it really only works in the evening. Unisex? Well, I believe there is definitely a type of woman to whom it fits perfectly. But you should have a penchant for dark sides or at least for dark clothing. A light cocktail dress and this fragrance - forget about it. Compared to MFK's Baccarat Rouge 540, it definitely leans much more clearly in a masculine direction.

Finally, there remains the crucial question: How do you feel about the copier label? I must confess, I am torn. To put it bluntly, Dua Fragrances replicates everything that is hyped and loved in the perfume market and locks these fragrances in cheaply printed bottles with plastic caps. And for me, a fragrance is a lifestyle product, which also includes product design. That is simply not present here, as just mentioned. And yes, it makes a difference in the entire product experience whether you are spritzing from a cheap bottle that even Rossmann wouldn’t dare to put on the shelf - or doing so from a heavy, ornate designer bottle from Initio. On the other hand, Dua Fragrances time and again manages - sometimes better, sometimes not quite as good - to copy high-quality, very demanding, and partly also price-exclusive fragrances like Initio's Oud for Greatness 1:1. This allows users to pay only a quarter of the price instead of 250 euros in this case. And it’s certainly not the case that they create weaker smell-alikes; on the contrary - the quality in the bottles is already enormous and concentrated. And that was also the moment when I told myself that the content, along with the chic Initio bottle, no matter how chic it may be, is not worth the extra 180 euros to me. So I bought my bottle of Shadow Play, and Oud for Greatness will temporarily hold its honorary place in the decant assortment.

And: You fans of MFK's Baccarat Rouge 540, give it a try.

The farmer's wife had her hair washed and styled at the salon before mucking out. A mix of hairspray and styling gel hovers over the manure pile.

Like with all DUAs, the overpowering musk cloud is bothersome. The rest is an oriental mix that doesn't scream as loudly as others, but is still annoying.

WOW! "Oud for Greatness | Initio" with even better HK+S! I really like it, but unfortunately my partner doesn't! :’-(

Left wrist Oud for Greatness, right Shadow Play. What a blast! In the A/B comparison, almost a tad more beautiful. This one stays!

Spraying: Oh, what is this?
Drydown: AH, so Baccarat Rouge 540 really meets Oud.
Not as sweet as the BCR :)
Genius stuff!

Absolute beastmode performance. If you're interested in Oud for Greatness but don’t want to spend that much, you’ll find it here.

A 1:1 dupe of Initio OfG, an absolutely fantastic scent for me! Dua delivers quality, not groundbreaking innovation but absolutely reliable!

Too synthetic-sweet for me (like sweetener in coffee), otherwise a musky, oriental-spicy oud scent.

I don't know Oud for Greatness or BR450. This one hits hard with the Ambrox-pepper punch and makes me think of Office + Sauvage. Sorry fans.
