Until the small fashion studio of Peter Scepka became the label "Helmut Lang", it took a very informal path that was necessary and meaningful in the end.
Helmut Lang was born Peter Scepka in Vienna in 1956. At first, he lived with his grandparents, who ran a shoe workshop. To be able to attend school, he went to the Austrian capital in 1966. Peter Scepka also graduated from business school in Vienna in 1976. He then spent three years teaching himself the basics of the fashion business and financing it with his waiter's salary. In 1979, Scepka felt ready and opened a boutique in Vienna, selling only his works.
The fashion designer was already able to present his first prêt-à-porter line for women a year after the opening. Success remained true to Peter Scepka, which is why he called himself Helmut Lang from 1986 onwards. Since Lang concentrated on the essentials in his creations, the designs formed a contrast to the fashion of Gaultier, Mugler, or Montana. A second collection for men followed as early as 1987.
At the same time as the first fashion series, the "Helmut Lang" label also launched classic shoes to round off the design of the "Helmut Lange" brand.
The new millennium began at "Helmut Lang" with the expansion of the portfolio. Meanwhile, the label, which belonged to "Prada" from 1999 to 2006, sells all kinds of clothing.
