Rose and lychee at their best
Wow, this is so stunning, I love it!
I was not that impressed by Indult's fan-favorite vanilla scent, Tihota, and vanilla is one of my favorite notes in the world. Sure, it smells fine, but there are hundreds of other vanillas I prefer. So I was sceptical about Manakara, even though the notes are right up my alley.
Well, this is something completely different. It smells exactly like the listed notes suggest, everything is finely blended, but still very intense. Lychee, jammy-sweet rose and creamy vanilla are the stars of the show. It has a lush, syrupy texture, as if it was dripping off the skin, which I love. Very sweet and gourmandish with the perfect little dose of floralcy and musk to not smell too edible or frilly.
If I had to link this to a food, it would definitely be lokum (Turkish delight). Not the dry, starchy, unappetizing boxed stuff that makes so many people believe lokum is a subpar sweet, but a freshly made, juicy gourmet version. Lychee flavored, which would admittedly be uncommon, but not impossible.
Manakara definitely a pink scent, no other color could fit it better. It's a fruity floral, but also a gourmand, with a kind of oriental vibe. Neither tart and fresh like Delina and all her sisters, nor as powdery as the typical lokum-inspired scents by Serge Lutens, Keiko Mecheri and so on. Playful and sensual at the same time. To me it smells like femininity, beauty, comfort, cheerfulness and nostalgia all rolled into one.
I'm not sure what would be the perfect time to wear this, it's not a perfume that feels like a specific season to me. Maybe not for the hottest days of summer, but I could see it at a nice event on a summer evening. And in autumn, winter and spring. At first I wanted to write that this is more of an evening/leisure fragrance than an office scent, but then I thought that this isn't quite to the point. It's a scent to wear if you're in a really good mood and feel pretty, no matter the occasion.
I also think that this could be a great introduction to niche fragrances for fans of the La Nuit Trésor line. Not that this smells anything like any LNT, it's just a feeling, maybe due to the syrupy vibe.
