Le Mâle was and still is my most frequently repurchased perfume ever. As far as I can remember, I received my first bottle in 1998, and since then, I have always had a bottle of this fragrance in my collection. Now there are so many extensions of Le Mâle that it's almost impossible to keep up... I still have a bottle from 2007, which I cherish very much!
The best extension of Le Mâle for me so far has been the Popeye Edition and the Terrible, both truly fine descendants of the original, albeit somewhat altered, which I enjoy using from time to time. But one starts to think that it should be enough, yet it seems they will continue to milk the Le Mâle cow, and it seems to be worth it ;)
I sprayed this one quite unprejudiced last week at Müller. Crazy, but I felt a bit transported back to 1998 when I held my first Le Mâle bottle in my hand. The typical DNA is now very well detectable here in Aviator, almost like back then... With the difference that Aviator is initially a bit fresher, like the Popeye Edition, and there is less cinnamon, with a slightly herbal/green note coming through. However, it quickly shifts towards sweetness, thanks to the tonka and vanilla. Even though lavender is not listed here, I believe I can still smell it quite well.
Another difference is the longevity and sillage. These are significantly reduced compared to the original from back in the day, which I consider very good, as it allows you to wear the fragrance wonderfully at work without overwhelming anyone ;)
In summary:
An extension of Le Mâle that (in my opinion) comes very close to the original from the early days, yet is somewhat fresher/herbaceous/greener with less punch, making it suitable for everyday wear.
Oh, I am happy that there is the Le Mâle Aviator; it at least somewhat replaces the original from back in the day, and I no longer feel like I have to chase after a rare bottle from the 90s for many euros ;)
