Who invented it? We Swiss didn't, but we make one of the best!
Well, this is not about herbs from the Alps, which it could be, but this time it's about spices. And not just spices. It's about a fragrance that was composed on the basis of cloves. These form the "basic framework" for a perfume that need not fear competition from other "spice orientals" such as "Opium" or "Youth Dew" and the like. Because it somehow combines all of them and yet smells independent enough to be easily recognized by connoisseurs of vintage perfumes.
Exactly! The clove does it! It is surrounded by a wonderful array of flowers, especially roses, garden carnations and iris. There is also cinnamon, pepper and coriander. Probably even more spices, but this "trio" is clearly recognizable.
There is no shortage of other "trappings" either, as evidenced by the woody, earthy, balsamic and smoky notes. Frankincense, myrrh, vetiver, sandalwood and much more complement and give a wonderfully long hold, pleasant radiance ("sillage") and clear depth.
But the clove always remains in the foreground without you getting tired of it.
Who says the Swiss can't create spicy oriental fragrances???? Only BANAUSEN! They may not have invented the fragrance concept, but they do it one of the best :-))
