Tempest by Kemi blending magic (parfum); just incredible
I am not usually taken by the shape or the beauty of the bottle or the full presentation. However, if you think of perfume as a piece of art then the presentation becomes important. Xerjoff have excelled at showing off their creations and out of the various offerings I have to say that Kemi Blending Magic is my favourite. The bottles are just exquisite and the attention to detail is unparalleled. I treated myself to tempest and I have to say that I love it, it’s an oriental woody fragrance which starts off rather strong with some animalic note (?). I find the oud/ amber combo quite strong in this but as it settles it becomes heavenly, I get wafts if rose and oud and a little amber. I must admit I cannot pick out Individual notes in this but overall it’s a beautiful scent. It’s a beautiful rich fragrance but whether the price tag is justified is another matter.

Discontinued, highly complex oud fragrance masterpiece?
Kemi is currently quite hard to come by - it seems the brand is being relaunched. What I hope for in this process: This Tempest should also be relaunched with the brand, as it is one of the most complex and alluring oud fragrances I know.

Tempest is very challenging in its DNA, in my opinion: I also had barn associations during my first sniff. But right from the start, I wanted to wear this Kemi again and again, because ultimately Tempest has so many aspects that present a challenge to the nose: The oudiness, along with subtle woodiness, also resinous, spicy, and fruity-citrusy. Everything is beautifully intertwined, with the individual components not pushing themselves to the forefront. It is warm and cuddly, caressing. Is there a lot of oud in it? I would say yes!

The drydown is also highly attractive and inspiring; it somewhat resembles Hayat from the same fragrance house.

Both the longevity and the sillage and projection are, of course, enormous, and one should be careful about how much one sprays. And of course: The use of such a multifaceted oud fragrance should be well considered and is ultimately a solo indulgence for one's own nose. Especially since most people are deterred even by the slightest oud impressions. But here, too, I would advise everyone: Give the nose time to embark on a wonderful fragrance journey, and then experience and enjoy a masterpiece!

Oud in an Italian Garden
An Italian brand that is strongly dedicated to Arabic perfume art launches a fragrance inspired by a Shakespeare play - Tempest. It is not truly stormy, as the title suggests, but rather a symbiosis of typical European and oriental accents.

Right after spraying, I encounter a bright accord that I would describe as somewhat medicinal-ethereal. I perceive the hesperides not as classically citrus-fresh, but rather as sour. They are densely intertwined with green (Petitgrain) and floral notes (Rose, Jasmine), and the fragrance also gains a bit of spice from ginger, which adds a certain sharpness. Additionally, lavender enhances the green/herbaceous side of Tempest. Nevertheless, the overall composition never drifts particularly in a soapy direction. The reason for this is likely the naturalness that this fragrance exudes and the woody mélange, which, in my opinion, is particularly characterized by cedar, patchouli, and oud. Initially still reserved, the properties of old, dry woods become increasingly noticeable. Although there is a slightly musty-earthy note accompanying these, I would not describe it as having a dirty effect.

Thus, Tempest is not a typical oud fragrance, as it lacks any animalic notes and typical oriental spices. Instead, it reminds me more of the diverse scents of an Italian garden. I find it a bit unfortunate that after the strong top note aroma, which leaves the impression that perhaps too much was intended here, there is not only a transformation towards a darker, calmer character, but also the projection noticeably diminishes. Perhaps the pure oil is better in this regard and likely has a different overall effect. For fans of natural and refined fragrances, Tempest is certainly worth a test, but I do not find the price justified.

Floral-lavender-balsamic-citrusy-subtle oud, to me it has a chypre soul, nice but a little bit sharp for the price, I prefer Hayat.

A very dense, sprawling, compact plant world of resinous wood, dark citrus, a briefly flashing rose, and dark green oud, then lavender oil.

Great combination of citrus, flowers, and aromatic oud, smells absolutely extraordinary and different, stable scent is hardly noticeable.

This perfume is something truly special. It transports you to a luxury farm - it smells a bit barn-like but in a good way.

Similarities to Hayat with a sharp spearmint-vetiver note in the base. Great oud, super wearable and refined. But Hayat is better.

AdP Colonia Oud is enveloped in the typical Kemi dung. Interesting, but I'd rather stay away from the dung. The Kemi stinkers aren't for me.

1. Citrusy, 2. consistently moderate animalic-woody oud-aquatic 3. leathery-green-earthy undertones + fresh spicy sharpness = unspectacular.

A strong animalic scent at the start, which later oxidizes on my skin with an oud-cedar blend. Washing it off is impossible!
