Exegetically Cruel Intentions
By Kilian CRUEL INTENTIONS is an oddly beautiful perfume. It takes a few wearings to wrap one's nose around it, but once one gets over the fact that this creation is completely intergeneric, not falling squarely into any of the standard categories, then one can begin to appreciate the composition.

The opening of CRUEL INTENTIONS, to my nose, is quite green, but there is also a strong incense presence. As the fragrance dries down, the wood becomes more prominent, and I begin to detect an ebony-like facet, which appears to be produced as a result of the oud conjoined with some of the other components.

By the drydown, I find the quasi-ebony note so marked that I am reminded of Tokyo Milk DEAD SEXY or Love & Toast POMME POIVRE, both of which I would recommend for testing by anyone who likes CRUEL INTENTIONS. I should say that the two Margot Elena creations are not at all the same--devoid as they are of the green-tinged incense opening of the By Kilian--but they are oddly appealing in the same way. The texture of all three seems somehow chewy to me.

I find CRUEL INTENTIONS rather addictive and would love to have a bottle. It's neither feminine or nor masculine. Not overly oriental but also not exactly green or woody. Eccentric and unique is what I'd call it! Of the perfumes of this line which I've tested, this is by far one of the best.

Full Bottle Worthy
Cruel Intentions reminds me something ... can't put my finger on it. I get a bit of Encre Noir (Femme) with the rose & vetiver, but it's the styrax, I think ... or maybe gaiac or agarwood. Puzzles me and causes me to take even more deep breathes of this fine fragrance.

I love this. Very well-balanced fragrance with just a hint of florals. I've had some difficulty wearing the sweet or boozy Kilian fragrances. However, I find Cruel Intentions unusual and right up my alley. Unisex for sure, maybe just on the femme side, if that.

I've sampled most everything in the sampler pack, and for me Cruel Intentions & Back to Black are full bottle worthy.

Highly recommend giving this one a try.

I agree With The Name At Least...
Not one of By Kilian's better efforts. I find Cruel Intentions very cloying with a synthetic smelling rose/orange combination that just does not work. The scent is pretty linear and has very good staying power. In this case, both of those are *not* good things. Not worth the selling price, and not a recommended buy at any price, IMO. I think By Kilian must have had "Cruel Intentions" indeed when they unleashed this 2 star out of 5 composition on prospective buyers.

Not Fish and Not Flesh
I love dark fragrances, but only when they truly come across as bitter, smoky, and cool. Cruel Intentions starts off beautifully for me. Up until the heart note, I really like the scent and I was already ready to pull the trigger to add it to my wish list. Oud is - very pleasantly for me - only very subtly present, and I can understand Egoproxy's comparison to M7 well. The Kilian scent is even more elegant. However, as the fragrance develops, Cruel Intentions takes on a creamy, almost greasy animalistic note that ruins the mood for me again. It somehow doesn’t fit together. The character of the fragrance changes so much for my nose that I no longer want it. I also don’t really know what Castoreum truly smells like. Perhaps, unlike musk and especially civet, I am overly sensitive here, but this note is extremely unpleasant for me.

For a creamy fragrance, Cruel Intentions is too dark and too bitter, and for a dark bitter fragrance, the animalistic note is too soft and sticky. There’s also nothing that softens the transition, giving the fragrance a framework. I find Cruel Intentions unharmonious, and that’s very unfortunate because I had high expectations for it.

Bittersweet Symphony
Of course, the name of this fragrance first made me think of the film of the same name with Ryan Philippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar, as I belong to the generation that watched it giggling far below the age rating with a handful of friends during late-night movie nights in Dad's hobby cellar.

My enthusiasm for the film only lasted a short time, but I still think the soundtrack is great. Who doesn't know the heartbreakingly beautiful song by The Verve from the dramatic closing scene of Cruel Intentions? I find the fragrance bittersweet as well, and it is undoubtedly dramatic. Here, in contrast to the song, the "bitter" is emphasized, not the sweetness. Those who can't handle this scent mood should better stay away from it altogether, because the opening alone is medicinal, herbal, and yes... in my nose, even a bit metallic. A heavy, dark rose only greets me after about five minutes of pharmacy feeling. The scent exudes a classic Gothic aura for me, or, if you prefer, it gets quite noir.

Mysterious and dramatic, it sneaks up on you without immediately making a loud olfactory statement. (Unlike "A taste of heaven". For Cruel Intentions, you definitely need more time to form a clear judgment. It is dark but not warm. It becomes increasingly sweetish but not sweet. This is more of a human, as they say, animalistic sweetness that becomes heavier over time. Behind the rosy romance, it slumbers resinous and bitter. The combination of rose and oud certainly has seductive qualities, as found in "Loukhoum parfum du soir". But this is a different caliber altogether. Cruel Intentions does not arrive on velvet paws, and delicious is something else. This fragrance is not for flirting and batting eyelashes. It bites you in the neck after the first twenty minutes. Not everyone appreciates that.

What I definitely want to express is the question of wearability. Of course, there are more intense, aggressive scents in this direction. Still, I seriously wonder whom I would really buy this fragrance from. I have a classic, seductive villain in mind. And yes, here we come to the "evil intentions" for which Ryan Philippe is clearly too boyish and well-behaved. With Cruel Intentions, you certainly won't get a prude virgin into bed, that much is certain.

Moreover, this perfume remains, despite its darkness, quietly and subtly in the broadest sense. I don't even think you would stand out or make an impression with it at first sniff. You would definitely have to get closer, as the sillage is quite polite by Kilian standards.
But the truly nasty villains, as we know, don't just barge in; they sneak up slowly. Can I identify with it? No. Therefore, this fragrance remains for me a kind of superhero dream to which I can occasionally escape. That's why the sample will also be saved for special occasions.

Oud, rose and guaiac combined in an elegant way. Strong, sexy, untamed and very charismatic. Simply Cruel Intentions!

Creamy guaiac wood with rose petals and a dull amber. Not very natural, but well-crafted. Unfortunately, it's too weak.

Nice fresh rose start, but then a dusty medicine cabinet with its contents. And mold. That's it - Kilian & I are incompatible.

Intentions, almost like "he tried" in a reference.. My expectations were probably too high, it's not bad, the oud-rose-amber mini hammer.

Was that something? A hint of turpentiney sandalwood-rose blend. A hint is an exaggeration, more like a notion.

Rugged shell, sweet core. Roses in the heart of a Gujak tree, earthy moss on a dark base. Ancient resins, back in style...good

Way too artificial for me. I would have guessed saffron. Fruity acidity, pudgy and sweet. A bit tailored, a bit niche, but not much edge.
