Understated Tobacco-Floral
Fleur de Narcisse goes on citric and bright, a little sour, fresh, and slightly green. I do understand the "vinegar" accusations, but it's closer to a light lemon or perhaps even cranberry to my nose.
The core is a diaphanous floral note. I am not going to say it's not narcissus, but it reminds me far more of freesia than any narcissus I know. It airy, cool, and transparent, and completely lacking any heady, narcotic properties.
The drydown emerges slowly, and after many hours, the florals morph into a delicate tobacco accord that's sheer to the skin.
I don't know that I'd call this a chypre, but there is the faint, glassy shell of one around the floral core; a twang of citrus, and a dab of moss. It's all very understated, but exquisitely proportioned.
