Sound Scents!...
Flamenco Neroli opens with sharp citrus bergamot with a touch of underlying bitter orange before quickly transitioning to its heart. As the composition enters its early heart an extremely life-like slightly green bitter orange neroli takes the fore, with moderately sharp honeyed jasmine support. During the late dry-down the jasmine vacates, as remnants of the neroli now support natural smelling cedar wood through the finish. Projection is very good and longevity outstanding at well over 15 hours on skin.

I remember several years ago reviewing a trio of perfumes (the Ephemera line by Unsound) where the idea was to have the perfumer compose scents that were inspired by pieces of (what I guess some would call) music. The perfumes created were largely awful, just as the techno music that inspired them to my personal tastes. I remember remarking in a review of one of the torturous trio that the scents based on sound concept was definitely up my alley, but I would have strongly preferred perfumes composed in tandem with classical music. Well, fast forward a few years later, and we come to the L'Orchestre house that does just that. This review is of the first perfume of the house I have tried called Flamenco Neroli based on music found at https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=4AlUysPyUes&list=RDAMVM4AlUysPyUes performed by classical guitarist Mathias Berchadsky.

As soon as I sprayed Flamenco Neroli on skin I knew this one was something pretty special. The composition is relatively minimalist, and for the most part it is a linear neroli soliflore. Neroli soliflores are hardly anything new, but by adding in some sharp supporting jasmine to the mix, coupled with the use of some superb quality neroli makes for an exceptional heart accord. The linear development is very slow and subtle to the point that by the time the composition reaches the late dry-down many, many hours later, the fine cedar that emerges just seems to meld with the now supporting neroli perfectly. As for the perfume matching the music, I guess I am not imaginative enough to make the connection, but I *can* say the minimalist, classically structured perfume, and the equally stellar minimalist classical guitar companion piece are both spectacular. The bottom line is the 140 Euros per 100ml bottle Flamenco Neroli is a fabulous "excellent" to "outstanding" 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5 rated neroli soliflore that makes this writer eager to sniff more from the house while listening to more great related classical music pieces in the process... Sound Scents indeed!

Néroli, but without Flamenco
I belong to the Neroli lovers and automatically think of the Côte d'Azur when I hear Neroli, where I first encountered Fleur d'Oranger - I was captivated, I was practically addicted to this scent and made bulk purchases every time I went to France, raiding the Le Petit Marseillais shower gel shelf.
I no longer use the shower gel, but the association of Southern France and orange blossom will forever remain inseparable for me.
And so one day I also learned what Neroli is - my beloved orange blossoms!

My nose is not yet very trained and I don't know many fragrance notes, or I can't identify them, but I recognize the distinctive Neroli well because I have sniffed Neroli/Fleur d'Oranger scents at every opportunity.
Now I have the sample set from L'Orchestre Parfum, whose presentation I find very appealing - I find the music-scent concept rather boring and secondary.
I automatically start with Flamenco Néroli. A fiery name, promising, passionate, full of emotion...
The first impression is familiar Neroli. I take a deep breath, citrus notes tingle in my nose and ensure that Neroli does not become floral-sweet here. Where is the Flamenco? What does Flamenco even smell like?
No matter, I dream of the little beach in Antibes.
With the warmth of the skin, a gentle wood gradually comes in, the scent gains depth, and becomes a bit more mature.
Suddenly, I no longer think of the bright blue sky on the horizon, but find myself in a twilight. This transition from day to night, which sometimes puts one in a melancholy state, the origin of which is unknown, but which one would like to linger a little longer.
Those moments when you gaze at the special color palette of the sky and let out a small sigh. Perhaps it is the transience that becomes apparent in these moments.

This scent transports me to an evening in a place where I would love to live, but must soon depart. A place where my skin has a different scent due to air, sun, and salt, and I thereby become a little bit of a different self. I wear this scent, and let the evening fade away.
I have completely forgotten the Flamenco.
It dances to a different scent.

Sevilla (again, once more) - this time in the evening
Flamenco Néroli:
For me, it's difficult because I don't like Neroli. However, if I absolutely had to choose a Neroli fragrance, I would definitely prefer this one over others. It is very clear, very fresh, and lasts forever. Besides a natural Neroli note, the fragrance also offers jasmine, bitter orange, and a bit of cedar.
Still, it's not a great hit.
There are countless perfumes and eaux that smell similar and don't require a YouTube video with music. So far, I haven't been as enthusiastic about this musically inspired fragrance series as I had hoped. It's a shame because I love music and had high expectations for the new perfumes.
However, the musical pieces oscillate between banal and strange, failing to captivate me at all. And the two fragrances I have tested enough to write about, I would not buy (Rose Trombone was the first), with the Neroli representative being the worst of the entire series (though inherently a good Neroli scent if you like the genre).
I wonder:
Two quite creative and very talented perfumers sit down and compose five new fragrances. What themes do they choose? The same as so many other niche houses: a Neroli mono fragrance, a leather scent, one with rose, one with incense, one with tea. All of this has been done so many times before.
By the way, the Sevilla scent from L'Artisan Parfumeur bears a striking resemblance to Flamenco Néroli... and it was already on the market earlier.
Who is supposed to buy all these niche fragrances that only differ in nuances? Many already find themselves on the so-called "gray market" after two or three years, meaning in the assortment of Notino et al.
L'Orchestre Parfum has squandered a fantastic opportunity for innovation and merely filled the beautiful idea of composing perfume from music with the familiar.
I will also take my time testing the other fragrances and then evaluate them.
"Cuir Kora" seems quite nice (soft leather with a bit of fruit), the incense scent has come back beautifully and has something meditative, but there are many others that are similarly good...
Thé Darbouka seems to be the only one in the series that dares to venture into new territory... but I need to let that one resonate with me longer.
Conclusion: Flamenco Néroli brings no new ideas.
Packaging and marketing are the great innovation here.

A green and fresh neroli. Some bitter elements which makes it squarely unisex. Nothing earth shattering but still a perfectly nice summer fragrance

Soft and green neroli, but still with some character, really well done hard to not like

Why do I think of dancing flamingos with this name? Strange! The scent is nicely fresh. You really have to be okay with neroli, though.

With a big bottle of 4711, extinguish the glowing wood fire. Alongside the bitter-fresh citrus, it’s smoky here. In the DD, it gets even more synthetic.

first very beautiful neroli, even if known, relatively quickly fading, too bad, as I really like neroli but not so delicate and soft as here

Classic, greenish herbal and pleasantly soft for a Neroli scent. If you like Neroli, this fragrance is worth a try.

Simple, yet harmonious combination of jasmine and neroli that I wouldn’t wear as a man, but would love to smell on a woman.

The wonderful, soft neroli rests on musky sweet cedar. Delicately smoky. Abruptly knocked out by the piercing synthetic base...
