The Fear Opponent
So, now I put him in here, now I should say something! For many here the name Castoreum (Bibergeil) mostly makes fear and is mostly immediately associated with something negative, stinking and dirty. This is not the case if you look at the scent alone and objectively. Castoreum has been highly valued in the world of fragrances for decades and is used again and again. It's hard to imagine the great perfumers of the world without it. For many who are not familiar with this note, if it was buried in a perfume with probably not even noticed if you do not know it at all. If you asked them why they find this perfume so appealing and pleasant, they might answer: Because it smells so incredibly intoxicating, enticing, sensual, warm, protective, powerful and intimate! Castoreum, in contrast to Zibet, is classified as a male note, whereas Zibet is classified as a female note. Castoreum is one of the most masculine notes ever to be buried in a perfume. If you smell Castoreum in a form diluted with alcohol, some associations come to mind. First it's leather. Very old and damp-warm leather. By the way, very easy to confuse with real leather! In the further course smoky chords creep in, roughly comparable to the smell of a campfire or smoky-earthy, glowing peat. Very warm and soothing and by no means repulsive. It's more like the opposite. Castoreum smells of a smoked and moist warm leather. It has a very protective and territorial aura that builds it around a carrier. It is used in aromatherapy to reduce stress, anxiety and hysteria, which actually works. If you spray it in a room, it unconsciously shows everyone who is the master of the house. It has a very dominant aura and this impression is not even negative. Castoreum radiates immense power, sovereignty and greatness. Everybody can imagine what this note did to a men's perfume like Antaeus before it was reformulated or to some other old classics. Castoreum gives every fragrance an intimate, leathery and cosy warmth and makes a leather note special and deep. I personally wear Castoreum also pure on the skin. He's very strong for the first few minutes, but he's back relatively quickly. Since it has basically only one development in intensity, a strong smoky but delicate leather chord remains only after some time. No one would suspect it was an animal secretion. Unless you say so! By the way, I also layered Castoreum with some of my scents, which also contain Bibergeil in the base note. Like Antaeus, for example. This connection is very impressive. You come very close to the good old times or I would say...man(s) has arrived!
So have courage, on it!
What could happen? In case of doubt it is washed off or you feel deeply relaxed, well protected and very selfish with it!
Castoreum is a fear opponent... however you understand it!
