Hotel Smell

I received this in the mail after returning from a work conference held at the Hyatt Regency in Orlando and this makes me think of the lobby. Not exactly so, but it has the same sort of feeling that it is trying to be relaxed and tropical but falling just short. I get only coconut, no almond or heliotrope which makes me a bit sad. It may be my imagination, but I think I get something fruity here.

Cute creamy and fluffy fragrance

I used to work at a Macy's beauty counter, and loved smelling absolutely every fragrance that crossed my path, probably because it gave me a break from makeup. There were a few different fragrances from brands better known for makeup that weren't at the fragrance counter and the two I was most obsessed with were Dior Addict and Laura Mercier Almond Coconut. Laura Mercier Almond Coconut, as well as being a nice fragrance, has an amazing lotion and body oil that I've been wanting to buy, however, I can't get behind the price.

I picked up Almond Coconut because I adore almond fragrances. I have always thought almond was such an underrated and underutilized note. It's one of the most beautiful smells in the world, at least to me. It's shockingly sweet for being a nut, but still maintains some earthy nuttiness. Almond never smells overly artificial as well. Not that I have anything against synthetic/artificial smells, but I don't need that from an almond fragrance.

I gushed about almond for so long that I forgot to mention that I like coconut fragrances as well. I have been told that my natural scent closely resembles coconut (maybe closer to pina colada than a straight-up coconut.) Here's where my problem lies with Laura Mercier Almond Coconut, and it's completely personal, the almond gets completely lost on me. When I smell it on myself, I only smell the coconut part, and I wondered why that was. At Macy's, when I would try this perfume, I would layer it with the matching lotion and/or body oil and that's when I would really be able to smell the almond notes. At home, I don't have any of that extra stuff so my natural scent comes through a little bit more. The event of the almond notes disappearing on me is nobody's fault, but it is disappointing. I still do like this fragrance though.

Another thing about this fragrance that is yet again personal to me is that I know it is very inoffensive and agreeable because my dad (who dislikes most of the fragrance I wear) actually likes it. I had on this fragrance today and he commented on only smelling the coconut part and then shared a scent memory with me. Back in the 80s (I believe) many salons used to use coconut-scented shampoo, and everyone who ever smelled it became obsessed with it. It was salon-grade obviously, but that didn't stop normal people from going to beauty supply stores for that shampoo only. If anyone knows what I'm talking about by the way, I would love to know what this shampoo was.

Overall, I do enjoy this fragrance. I was able to smell it on myself for about 5-6 hours without reapplying. It smells yummy and edible. I probably rebuy it when I run out.

Although I struggle slightly with how foody and greasy the perfume is, it smells very cozy and delicious for fall weather.

Natural, unsweetened coconut with an almond/pistachio base, without any "cheap" Pina Colada/sunscreen/body spray vibes. A high-quality, elegant summer scent.
