timelessly elegant, even without "blue blood"
The first "real" perfume my mom gave me as an early teenager (I was certainly not yet 15 years old) was "Sortilege".
I'm not even going to mention all the fragrances that young women of that age spray on themselves.
This gift was certainly not age-appropriate, but it was beautiful and I was very proud of my little 30 ml bottle, which accompanied me everywhere from then on.
Just imagine: A very young schoolgirl in the mid-sixties, with a raffia basket, instead of the usual, school bag and in it between books and exercise books, first mascara and lipstick and a flacon of this fragrance!
Somehow, looking back, there was something about it!
My preference for clear, almost straightforward fragrances probably dates back to this time.
Even though I never had another composition from "Le Galion" in my collection later on, I am always delighted when dear fragrance friends send me bottles of the brand's fragrances to test.
Anyone who knows me will be aware of my penchant for using up every last drop of this bottling and living in a different part of this fragrance world for a short time.
This is also the case with "Sang Bleu". My dear friend Can (we've known each other for years now) puts together interesting compositions for me, knowing full well that I have no problem crossing boundaries and am often taken with so-called "men's fragrances".
He also challenges my spirit of discovery by bottling great creations that I wouldn't even dare to try on my own.
So I would also like to thank him for giving me a generous sample of "Sang Bleu".
The way this creation comes across, you would think it was a classic from almost the very beginning of this traditional company: as noble and unadulterated as its name "Blue Blood"! One of these creations from "Le Galion" would never be loud or obtrusive; the stylish elegance, always fitting, is immediately noticeable here too, without wanting to be adapted or even bland.
The spicy freshness, which is provided by the usual juicy, ripe and fruity hesperides, is very pleasantly underlined by Mediterranean herbs that grow in the gardens or balcony boxes and have no need for "exclusivity" at all; a clearly perceptible hint of eucalyptus (whose cough drop flair I can't always stand) distinguishes this opening from many usual fresh entrées.
Everything remains in the elegantly quiet, fresh-spicy frame.
We look in vain for the usual "frills" and "powerhouses" from the coniferous family that spread freshness, and so an almost imperceptible glide over to the already waiting fragrance notes of the heart note that are already hinting in the background seems quite unalterable, even consistent.
Fresh, tart and spicy and now also floral, led by rose geranium, which is also so popular in aromatherapy and leaves its first hints in the top note (where it is already noticeably peeking around the corner), the classic floral beauties of jasmine, rose and violet are revealed, this time tastefully spiced.
The addition of pink pepper makes it clear just how young this seemingly traditional fragrance is: around 2016, the aroma of pink pepper was almost a "must" among perfumers.
In contrast, the cloves that can also be found are pleasantly old-fashioned; they know their effect and so their presence is quite natural.
Finally, the base, which is so wonderfully woody and earthy in its composition, is also connected to tradition - after all, "Le Galion" was founded in 1930.
The four related here are already a dream team! Something that is so skillfully and roundly conceived develops practically by itself towards the intended goal/climax: This is fragrance art.
This makes "Sang Bleu" an extremely wearable, stylishly elegant creation for any occasion.
Without making a lot of fuss, always respecting the origin and the name, it has a presence that emphasizes the natural aura of the wearer (whether male or female) and leaves a positive memory.
Recently, I have come across a relatively large number of Hermès fragrances that I still remember very well.
So I would like to go out on a limb with a clear conscience and say that "Sang Bleu" can stand alongside many of them; this charismatic fragrance has nothing to hide.
