The Shower Gel of My Dreams?
I don't often write reviews - they seem too time-consuming and useless in most cases; statements are often more convenient, typed out quickly - one’s opinion can usually be packaged in a short format.

Here, with the "No 3 - Acqua Tempesta | Lengling," I see a few reasons to provide a detailed evaluation: In my eyes, the scent is underrated with its current rating, the previous written reviews do not do it justice, and my thoughts exceed the character limit for statements.

About the scent: Without letting myself be swayed by the listed aquatic notes, this fragrance reminds me of a shower gel throughout its entirety. Of course, in a significantly more multifaceted and complex form. The general tendency is thus established. This characteristic, described so simply, which may seem potentially boring, is transformed into a creative work of art by Lengling's uniqueness.

Within the shower gel characteristic, two directions almost dance together; on one hand, the balsamic (through incense, resin, and vetiver) and on the other, the freshness - shaped by Hedion and especially by the peppermint, which plays a unique mediating role between these worlds in this composition.

Of course, peppermint smells fresh and green - but anyone who enjoys chewing gum will understand that menthol (whether tasted or smelled) can remind one of the characteristic of incense (smoky, balsamic). Accordingly, the peppermint in this fragrance serves as an artistically fantastic mediator between the worlds of freshness and balsamic.

However, the scent is not a pure shower gel monster: In the drydown, it certainly leans towards the balsamic direction, which is simply in the nature of fresh and green fragrance materials that are not quite as long-lasting.

In conclusion, it can be stated that this creation is definitely worth a test!

Munich Humor...
I got myself a tester kit from Lengling. I'm afraid that wasn't such a good idea.
This afternoon, I was at the table with "No 3 - Acqua Tempesta | Lengling." First son: "What smells so burnt?" Second son: "Someone must have made a campfire?" My husband: "Must have been one of those really clever ones who used wet wood."
I just didn't say anything.

I imagine a top manager who has been sitting in the office for decades and now, in a midlife crisis, wants to experience the oh-so-idyllic nature. It's all the rage. He buys everything (supposedly) needed in the highest quality from an outdoor shop online. Freshly shaved (generic aftershave), he drives his SUV to the countryside. No old camping site, just forest, meadow, stream, and him. After he sets up a wobbly tent and is visited by three ticks in very uncomfortable places, he tries to make a fire. Because that's just part of it. However, he has collected far too fresh, damp, unseasoned wood. It smokes, burns, and stinks. Then it starts to rain. Googling doesn't work either. No reception.

The scent progression... I perceive a classic aftershave note. Then the smoke comes in. Everything is very choppy. Cannabis fumes join in. The burnt cedar wood is the worst for me. Unfortunately, it lingers stubbornly. The vetiver is also not well integrated. It comes across very haphazardly... In the end, it's back to the generic aftershave. Phew... shake...

The bottles are, however, stylish.

What were the Munich folks thinking? I believe they were just having a bit of fun. Munich humor is something you have to understand and learn to love. My husband always says: "You just have to take a lot with humor; otherwise, you won't make it."

Fire on Board
Silently, he stared at the remnants of what had once been a good and loyal ship. Not fast, but reliable.

They had smelled the fire too late. When the first wafts of the acrid scent of burning oil and scorched rubber had penetrated through the storm and spray, the engine room of the small cutter had already been ablaze, flames soon licking through the hatches onto the deck. Fire on board - one of the greatest terrors for a seafarer.

In their desperate attempts to extinguish the flames, his partner and friend had gone overboard and quickly disappeared from sight. No chance to save him. For almost thirty years, they had fished together, and now the sea had claimed him. The icy water would have sufficed for only a few minutes. A cold shock, followed by reflexive, frantic breathing, all amidst the roaring waters. There was no need to wait for hypothermia.

By a narrow margin, he had managed to endure until the ship was driven ashore. While it continued to burn, he had stayed nearby, hoping to salvage something useful. But now it was clear that the flames would leave nothing of the sort. Finally, the incoming tide, in conjunction with the water whipped up by the hurricane, had extinguished the fire. As if they had completed a joint task, the storm had suddenly calmed to a breeze, carrying cool smoke with it.

The search would not begin until tomorrow afternoon. Would they find him in time, on one of the numerous uninhabited islands? Not even he knew exactly where he was, let alone whether he would be able to start a fire to signal for help.

Finally, he turned around and headed towards the interior of the island to seek shelter for the night. As a final farewell from the extinguished ship, the wind sent him a strange, almost soapy mixture of oil, plastic, and sea air.

"That's more like it!" or "From the good Lengling"
Explicitly launched as a men's fragrance, the Lenglings present their "Acqua Tempesta." This makes sense when compared to the hardly masculine appearance of their "Eisbach," but ultimately it is not mandatory. After all, they achieve a bullseye with this scent: The balance of crisp freshness and mild, soapy-charming woodiness is truly nose-pleasing, the subtle aquatic touch enriching, and the composition overall extraordinarily lively.

The fact that a bit of shameless rummaging in the archives has taken place casts a slight shadow over the creation: "Sel de Vetiver" meets "Vetiver Veritas" meets "Menthe fraiche" meets... but at least the perfumer cleverly blends his inspirations and thus organizes a decorative place for his fragrance in the family tree of its prominent relatives. Why the Lenglings can charge so well for their eclecticism is another question that the consumer must answer at the checkout.

With a refreshingly strong breeze of peppermint, "Acqua Tempesta" opens and immediately shows strong presence. There is also a hint of the sea wafting through the aroma - hardly salty, but still sufficiently aquatic for an olfactory short trip to the shore. Thankfully, the fragrance successfully avoids that fishiness which has not only made the widely appreciated "Sel Marin" distasteful to me: The sea remains an abstract thought.

The cannabis in the pyramid seems cute to me; its typical green-resinous scent is hardly detectable even if one is familiar with it. Perhaps it only serves to round out the sweet-grassy notes, which soon take the edge off the minty opening without completely overshadowing it. While Heeley in "Vetiver Veritas" consistently develops a similar idea to the point of awkwardness, allowing his vetiver to also showcase the charm-free, dry-woody nuances beneath the minty flames, the Lenglings take a more cultivated approach. We encounter a very friendly, decorously green-woody vetiver shining in the bouquet in a modestly classic aftershave mode. Its governess is named Hedion; however, she does not wear the usual floral dress but successfully ensures that the perfume remains bright and radiant. Therefore, there is hardly a trace of the usual "sweet-grassy mumbling" in the fragrance. The fact that Madame Hedion is also supposedly capable of activating pheromone receptors*), heavily shakes my Rottenmeier-influenced notions of governesses...

Not much else happens in "Acqua Tempesta"; after a rather stormy start, the fragrance reaches calmer waters and eventually manages to extract a very faint hint of barely resinous sweetness. One might also encounter the incense in a similarly subtle to homeopathic dosage; however, I could just as easily attribute the mild note to the vetiver: It sometimes brings its smoky quality into play as well.

Average are the longevity and sillage; considering the price point, one could... but I am repeating myself. Despite this Lengling-related drawback, Acqua Tempesta is a pleasantly minty vetiver-aquat - and thus far removed from the aforementioned description of "woody-smoky." In general, the brief descriptions below the perfume name often do not really make sense to me; do they come from the manufacturer or are they based on the coffee grounds of the fragrance pyramid?

Be that as it may - "Acqua Tempesta" confidently climbs to 75 percent in my personal ranking because it is absolutely wearable and sufficiently serious without being a bore. That I ultimately decide on 70% is due to the Lengling penalty - they will manage it.

Not sure that anyone would want to smell like this. Thumbs down. The notes are discernable. Not natural. Abby Normal

A true island barber-fresh, minty, intoxicating, he strolls along the boardwalk, enjoys the rough sea, and disappears into the shop.

Fire (smoke, vetiver) and water (aquatic note) in one fragrance: the poles couldn't be further apart, yet it's a harmonious scent.

Smoke plus flowers and aquatic notes, unusual but overall really good. Actually like a very distant relative of Burning Barber.

The barbershop is by the (artificial) sea, where a campfire burns with still damp driftwood. For comfort, there's a joint. Disharmonious.

Awfully sharp, aquatic, and especially ozonic blend - it gets annoying after a very short time, definitely a candidate for washing off!

Aquatic aftershave note battles smoky bitter vetiver... in round 1, the aftershave note wins... later it's a tie.

Fresh aftershave aquatic layered with a slightly sweet smoke. Unusual combination, but I really like it!

Freshly showered yet still musty,
smoky, resinous but not warm;
nice is different, that’s clear,
I don't perceive cannabis.
