Chalou in blue, the scent of my childhood.
Chalou, the scent of my childhood. The memory of this perfume has lingered in my scent memory for more than a decade now. It was that iconic to my 14 y/o self.

Now, if you've ever smelled this version and compare it to Davidoff Cool Water you'll realize the smell alike. Lidl has a pretty good dupe value in general. They give a good idea of what an actual perfume will smell like.
I'll give it a 10 for resemblance, simply because after all these years I never forgot what this perfume smelled like but once I got my hands on the original bottle, I immediately knew I had now found a piece of my scent memory back for good.

Was the Lidl version cheaper and a tad sharper? Sure! It was but it didn't loose the essence of the original perfume.

Unjustly Condemned Fresh Shower
So this is my first comment, and I am terribly excited. Some might wonder why I chose this particular fragrance when there are so many others. Well, I just have to praise it; I think it gets rated far too poorly.
While some are bothered by the citrus note, I find it refreshing. Together with the finish of, well, what actually, aquatic I find terribly vague, the scent of being freshly showered and water lily creates a very harmonious composition for my nose, which is absolutely suitable for everyday wear, not too intrusive, and simply beautifully refreshing.
The similarity to Cool Water can be set aside for now. I do find a resemblance, but I’m not at all upset that I don’t smell an absolute match; there’s something about the "original" that I really don’t like at all.
I enjoy wearing it on days when I just want a bit of freshness in my nose without standing out.

Close but no cigar
A good and a bad dupe at the same time? I learned that this is possible with Chalou-Blue.

You can definitely recognize the similarity right away, even if you have a clumsy nose like I do. In my first test at Lidl, I even had both fragrances on my wrists and couldn't notice a significant difference in the hustle and bustle, so I went for it. However, with a bit more calm and patience, I realize that it was a bad purchase, and the more I delve into it, the more disappointed I am with Chalou. By now, I am ready to say: It is downright horrible.

The art of the original lies for me in managing to just about stay on track as an Aquate without slipping into citrus territory. I can't stand citrus notes; even the head of Armani Code is too zesty for me. However, the emphasis of Cool Water Woman is on Aqua/Ozone, it brings that summer magic that rises to your head and is so hard to categorize. Calone? Ca-Lotus? Ca-Me-Lo-Helio? Whatever it is, in Chalou they either neglected it or, in my opinion, drowned it in a toilet-fresh scent so much that I can't get through anymore. While Cool Water floats by as a mysterious round aqua cloud in this strange mix of airy transparency and compact omnipresence, Chalou breaks down into somewhat clumsy slices, the most noticeable of which seems to be the aforementioned citrus mountain spring doctor.
Some write here that they don't find it piercing-zesty-lemony - I do, but as I said, I might be easily offended in this regard. And it ruins the whole rest for me.

Anyone who doesn't have a fundamental problem with citrus notes can certainly give it a try, because aside from that, the scent isn't bad. In the end, I nervously gifted it away; a bit "off" is simply too much for me in this product category.

PS: By the way, I didn't switch to the Davidoff classic for this summer, but to a guaranteed acid-free leftover bottle of Ming Shu. There you go. It can be done :)

Water Lily Pond
I only came across the Lidl fragrances thanks to Parfumo; until then, I didn't even know that Lidl offered fragrances in their standard range. So I quickly dashed into the cosmetics department and tested them all. Chalou in the blue bottle was also allowed to join my collection.

Just by sniffing the bottle, Cool Water immediately came to mind, so I sprayed it on and yes... it smells like Cool Water, at least on my skin.
Since I associate this scent with nostalgic memories, I decided to purchase it.

Apart from the melon, I can't detect any individual fragrance components.
I imagine a beautiful sunny day, with a picnic blanket spread out next to a picturesque water lily pond, reading a bit, daydreaming, and enjoying the sun. For a little hunger, I brought along a melon salad, whose delicious scent wafts towards me along with the fragrance of the flowers in the meadow and the water lilies.

I really like the scent; it is fresh, but not sharply fresh, rather it has a muted, slightly sweet freshness and a hint of floral notes. I would describe it as aquatic-floral with a light sweetness.

Longevity and sillage are good; two sprays are more than enough for me to create a noticeable scent cloud.
A lovely fragrance for spring and summer :-).

A Nice Aquatic
So,

a few days ago I bought this fragrance, the blue Chalou at Lidl. 50ml EDP for 3.29 euros. So it is definitely NOT discontinued. That's not true.
Therefore, I also hope that Parfumo accepts my picture.

Let's talk about how it smells:
In the opening, it's citrusy but not as piercingly lemony as one often finds these days, no, it's fruity lemony. Just slightly sweet and from the very beginning, it's aquatic floral.
As the lemon gradually fades, it becomes very subtle and remains floral fresh, but not cold-fresh, rather aquatic. Absolutely wearable and pleasant, even if it's not a perfume milestone. It suits pretty much every age and occasion, smells neither cheap nor artificial, you can't go wrong with it.
When I smell it, I see myself coming out of my sunny bathroom, freshly showered and refreshed in the height of summer. And on some days, just such a scent is enough for me. Like freshly showered, simple. A bit aquatic, a bit floral, not too sweet, clean fresh.
It lasts about 4-6 hours in my hair, which I find absolutely okay for the price.
It is said to be a dupe of Davidoff Cool Water Woman. I also came across comparisons with Laura by Laura Biagiotti on the internet.
Whether it really smells like either of those two, I can't say unfortunately. On the day I bought Chalou, I wanted to get a test strip of Davidoff Cool Water Woman to compare at home in peace, but unfortunately, there was no tester from Davidoff. Of course, there wasn't one from Laura either. :( I'm very curious whether it's a dupe of one of the two, so I have to postpone that.
As soon as I can test it, I will report to you whether it actually has such a strong resemblance to Cool Water Woman or Laura.

Hmm, maybe it’s a cross between the two?!?

Anyway, I am completely satisfied with it; it enriches my collection for the summer, which hopefully will still get going.
(fingers crossed)

Addendum: Today I was able to test Davidoff. And yes, it smells just like Chalou (blue). It is the same fragrance.

Fresh water, aquatic, slightly citrusy, uncomplicated. The environment doesn’t tip over, no migraine attack. I love this scent. Period.

Intense, with a strange scent note. Still too expensive at €3.59.

Aquatic, lightly floral, and a bit fruity-melon - smells strikingly similar to the original Cool Water on my skin.

I would call it fruity-fresh. I might not really like the original Cool Water. The rest is now used as a room fragrance. It's okay for that.

A clean scent of a different kind: First glass cleaner, then a bit calony, weather-dependent, sometimes more, sometimes less cucumber-like. Lidl standard base. Nope.

I smell sharp dried herbs, peppermint toothpaste, and bitters, but it becomes much milder after 2-3 hours.

Chalou Blau is unfortunately a bit too lacking in freshness and bitterness for me. But it's great for gentlemen of the world. The longevity is top-notch for the price!
