Nicely severe, with a touch of nostalgia
Wow wow wow… what can I say? This is a powerhouse of a perfume. It’s super severe, with a touch of nostalgia or vintage vibes. No basic white florals here.
There’s this beautiful balsamic twist to an already gorgeous floral note. And I’m really into this take on galbanum — I’ve only really gotten to know it through one perfume (Bruma), so I’m thrilled to smell it again here, and in such a great way.
The longer it wears, the stronger it gets. Green, woody, balsamic…
Absolutely stunning. Honestly, I think it’s perfect for autumn and winter.

Real gardenia
Lady Day was a blind buy. A tricky one, because I don't usually go for these kind of scents. But I'm happy to say it all worked out. The scents of Maria Candida Gentile are so much in line with my preferences that I felt very confident.

Lady Day starts slightly camphorous, bitter and green when first sprayed on. I presume that this is caused by the galbanum. After that the gardenia immediately arrives together with the peru balsam which has a light cinnamon feel to it. The gardenia is very pretty and realistic and it's real gardenia essential oil. It's not the usual white flower scent you might expect though, but more a balsamic scent. Longevity is about 3 hours on me, although very close to the skin I can still smell a trace after 7 hours.

I often need time to understand the fragrances made by MCG and I also needed some time to understand this one. At first it seems very simple, but it's actually more minimalistic and very well crafted. I enjoy it's vibe very much.

I think this will be very pretty in the Summer.

Deductions in the B-Note
..I unfortunately have to give here.

The scent does convince me, it is a light and delicate gardenia fragrance.
The way the galbanum is used in the top note I find innovative and successful. It is subtle and creates a bit of freshness, so that I imagine a bud just blooming.
As it develops, a creamy gardenia comes in, but that's about it.

After an hour, the scent is no longer perceivable. I find that unacceptable for the price. It should be in a slightly stronger concentration, and the sillage would be better then. I tested it three times and even applied more the third time, but only from a sample to dab. Maybe it is a bit stronger when sprayed, but that’s not enough.

Scent: successful, also fits the title or the inspiration

Longevity: not worth mentioning, my body oil lasts longer

Lady sings the day
So it is with every delicacy, even with poetry. Impossible to break it down into its individual parts, at least when it comes to avoiding total loss, a destruction. And this scent here is - a poem. The kind of lyric that the ancient Greeks sought to banish from their ideal state; too great seemed the danger to the peace of the soul - reason.

This scent sings, like Billie Holiday - the Lady Day, always with gardenia in her hair - sang. This sound touches the innards, beneath it the heart, but not only. It has finesse, a subtlety that distinguishes poetry from prose, separates them. One must listen to it, and that can only happen when one forgets oneself, dares to surrender to the silence within. And then allows the opposite of an opinion.

I had ordered three other scents from Maria Candida Gentile as small vials, and this one was included as a sample. I sprayed it on for the first time today, rather casually, but still, already curious - and having been prepared by the test of Exultat, Cinabre, and Sideris for Gentile's special, poetic narrative style. After two and a half seconds, maybe three, I knew that I could give up, surrender, relinquish not only Debut, Chamade, Number One for this scent, but a whole series of other fragrances. Those that I already own and those that I might have otherwise tested, bought, and rarely worn.

Lady Day is a poem, a handwriting, a signature. Mine. With this scent, I would gladly sign. What I could be - even though I still don’t know everything about it.

By far the 'loudest' MCG I've tested. Great sillage & longevity. Unfortunately the gardenia/white floral is too cloying for me

White gardenia on
galbanum green.
Meadow frolic...
If only someone hadn't peed in the corner again.

On a balsamic base, between cool-grassy green, an unusual gardenia grows. Sweet medicine, vanilla, eugenol, no fungus. Finally.

Grassy-green summer meadow scent with buttery-soft gardenia...balsamic notes add a subtle sweetness over time...nice and unremarkable.

This gardenia is a bit off-putting. Not because of its overwhelming floral scent, but because it’s bitter-medical & dark green.

One must love the ensemble of galbanum and gardenia, dancing a green waltz. Simple, yet simply convincing.

Doris Day embodies Beverly Boyer, along with the scent of Happy soap. The combo of bitter green and bright gardenia feels a bit stuffy.

This gardenia takes no prisoners! Fleshly, lustful, animalistic... And yet the scent feels so carefree, green & tender at the same time.

A very simple women's fragrance with green-woody and floral (gardenia) notes.
Extremely subtle and quite expressionless.

Galbanum is sharp and peppery here, yet remains quite subtle; combined with the gardenia, it almost feels rubbery.
