Oriental Green?
The opening, to me, is quite disconcerting: both a heavy metal note and the memory of kindergarten glue dominate.
In about 10 minutes the carnation, which I think causes this, subsides more to the background. Then a luscious yet stingy ylang-violet-jasmin-amber opens up.

Carnation immedialetely reminded me of Amouage Jubilation for women (because of the ylang), so I sprayed this on my other arm for comparison.
If I had to choose, Jubilation (obviously to me) wins. It is lovely right from the start and much, much more refined, with a sillage and drydown which are as desirable as they are rare in perfume, so good.

But I can appreciate the raw vibe of Carnation. It is more brusque and pushy and I believe we do need those characteristics at times in perfume.
A happy and bold summer perfume, which may need a new category: Oriental Green.

Nothing human is alien to me.

Every now and then you should tidy up and then you are amazed at what forgotten treasures come to light. I have always taken small or large perfume breaks and bottlings have ended up in the furthest reaches of my 120-year-old buffet from my great-grandmother or have taken refuge in the cupboard atmosphere. You can only find something in this Art Nouveau monster if you crawl all the way in. Archeology of a different kind. After all, you can make discoveries on parfumo and then lose yourself in the depths of the cupboard. For years!
I eyed Carnation a little suspiciously and sniffed it even more suspiciously and, following Louce's advice, really took my time - a few days. With repeated dripping.
Mona di Orio (1969-2011) went to school with the great Edmond Roudniska - to whom we owe Diorella, Femme, Miss Dior and others - and was later inspired by Serge Lutens. I think I can recognize the influence of Lutens in Carnation. Now I said to myself: Woman, don't let the fact that you don't like Lutens' creations guide you. When I was new to parfumo in 2011 and there was a veritable Lutens hype, these hit my stomach and nose several times.
Carnation, ergo carnation.... No carnation start! Levkojen.... yes and yes, and in excess. Levkoyas have a beguiling scent as long as they are freshly cut in the vase, then they smell of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. But the longer they have to endure this stay, the olfactory experience changes and they become sultry, sweaty and somehow smell like wet dog. Sweaty is actually a good description. I imagine a hot summer's day and you're drenched in sweat because it's 40° in the shade and suddenly you're soaked to the skin by a heavy summer thunderstorm. Beforehand, you had legumes or other gut-wind-promoting foods for dinner, which have escaped into the environment through a discreet pub. There's a slight tinge to it and I don't know if that's what Turandot means when she writes humanize. Lilies in themselves can exude something sweetly corrupt. And I could bet that tuberoses also play a role with their somewhat decadent, sweet and musty touch. And every now and then a cloud of wet dog flickers through. On the other hand, I have the impression that I have been embalmed here, still wet from the rain, and the musky animal is standing behind the wooden gate, powdering me, grinning maliciously and squinting.
On the whole, my enthusiasm is limited.
By the way, Mona di Orio has closed its doors for good.
"Today, I announce the closing of Maison MONA DI ORIO. This decision has not come lightly, but it is made with deep respect for our history and the belief that sometimes, stepping away is necessary for renewal. Though we close our doors, the soul of our brand will endure.

Thank you for being part of our story .

Jeroen Oude Sogtoen"

For me, there are still a few little discoveries lying dormant in Mona di Orio's enchanted cupboard. Let's see and it's actually a shame. Because even if Carnation doesn't elicit a knee-jerk reaction from me, the lady has understood her craft.
