Dance of the Resins

If there is a fragrance that is dark AND at the same time light, compact AND yet feels airy, it is this one! It plays with the moods, the colors, the characteristics of a forest landscape that appears so real, as if one were standing right in the middle of it.
Here, there is lush green, pressed from fresh conifer needles, ethereal, floating, and dancing. Floating particles in the sun.
Herbs from nearby meadows join the dance. And earthy resins, over which fine mists of incense loom, underlined by the bitter notes of barks and woods. There are also uplifting essential oils that make the "heavy light" and hold everything together like a fragrant cloud.
A fabulous composition, without exaggeration one of the best "forest scents" ever created. The light and the dark have been combined here into an authentic perfume that creates new, extremely interesting perspectives with its scent evolution.

Highly Interesting New Release

Ubar 1992 - at first glance, this gives the impression that it is a fragrance from the last millennium. In fact, Ubar 1992 is a new release from 2018 by the Italian fragrance house Moresque, and I think it is fair to call it a niche fragrance, as neither Moresque nor Ubar have made a significant impact so far. Quite a shame, really.

Ubar 1992, from Moresque's Secret Collection Series (the name is meant to evoke associations with Mauritania), is by definition a fragrance from the oriental corner. Compared to many others of this kind, I believe the significant difference lies in the fact that the fresh top note of bergamot and cypress, while eventually making way for black pepper and labdanum, never completely disappears, thus maintaining a hint of freshness until the very end, which makes the fragrance so unique. A thought on labdanum: in many perfumes, this is a component primarily found in the base note, and this fundamentally resinous ingredient can be equally unpleasant and at times intrusive if too dominant, but here it is perfectly dosed, giving Ubar a fine undertone that allows both leather and patchouli to unfold. Strong sillage, lasting about 12 hours.

The bottle itself deserves special mention because it is a dream - a small work of art that could have been handcrafted directly in Mauritania. It adorns even the oldest bathroom and brings shine to any hut. Just the bottle alone is worth the purchase. All bottles from the Secret Collection are, by the way, worth seeing, each an optical gem in a world of mass-produced items that are often made without care or thought.

Although listed in the unisex category, I see Ubar as more masculine in nature, although I can certainly imagine one or another Amazon as a wearer. For me, it is wearable year-round, and due to the freshness described above, it is not a heavy hitter with oriental additions, but rather a fine, interesting new fragrance that does many things differently than various other orientals. Absolute recommendation for testing!
