Dominant ylang-ylang with fresh, powderiness
I’ve been using Ouai products for awhile, but never really turned towards their fragrances (apart from the social media popular St. Barts). While rummaging around in my decants, I found out I had samples of their fragrances, so I decided to try them out to see.

Sometimes, it gets difficult to seperate the scents you want to smell on you all day and the ones you want to smell briefly on you. This one falls into the latter category. I wouldn’t mind washing myself with the body wash, but I wouldn’t want to wear it on myself. It’s a very ylang-ylang dominant fragrance. Violet offers powderiness while the yellow flower dominates everything. It’s tropical, but there’s also a fruitiness to the flower that does strike me a bit out of place (discordant even?). Gardenia reinforces the whole sweet and soft floral vibe. Drydown is musky and floral.

Overall it’s a nice fragrance, but like I said, I wouldn’t wear it on myself all day. I’m not a fan of powderiness and there’s something weird in the overall vibe and where the fragrance is trying to pull you. Might be the ylang-ylang which was clearly overdosed here. Try before you buy!

Someone needs an intervention
Rue St Honore from Ouai is giving me some real idyllic springtime wisteria-draped cottagecore Crabtree & Evelyn Gunne Sax tradwife YouTube influencer exploited by their alt-right faschy podcaster husband for their perceived domesticity, femininity and purity vibes. Is this a field of violets and daisies and gingham picnic daydream or an escapist nostalgia-trap weaponized by Neo-Nazis? Maybe I am overthinking it, but there is something about this quaint floral garden fragrance that feels wildly wrong and deeply uncomfortable and makes me desperately itchy to stage an intervention for someone.

A ylang-ylang dominant fragrance showcasing facets of powderiness, freshness, and tropical fruitiness. Nice as a body wash but for a scent?
